Wisconsin vs. Michigan State betting lines – Big Ten Championship

Bet on Michigan State vs. Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship GameNCAAB: Big Ten conference tournament finals

When: Sunday, March 15th 2015 at 3:30pm ET
Where: United Center in Chicago, Illinois
Watch: CBS

THE Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan State Spartans are both going to be playing in the big dance next week, but they have business to settle tomorrow afternoon in the Big Ten championship game.

Wisconsin have had little resistance on their way to the finals. The Badgers beat Michigan (71-60) in the quarterfinals and followed that up with a win over Purdue (71-51) today. There is no question Wisconsin will face a bigger test against MSU.

I had Maryland pegged to win the Big Ten championship, but the Terps lost today against the Spartans (62-58). Michigan State won their opening game in the quarterfinals against Ohio State (76-67). One thing’s for sure – Tom Izzo will have his team ready.

Michigan State vs. Wisconsin point spread and over/under

The point spread just opened up minutes ago at -6.5 points in favor of Wisconsin. That’s way too high and I’ll be betting on the Spartans. The total still hasn’t opened, but I expect the total to be around 130-135 points. I’m also interested in betting the money line once released.

Badgers vs. Spartans betting preview and statistical analysis

MSU have a great offense. They shoot a high percentage from the field, move the basketball around well and can win games even if they struggle on the defensive end. Wisconsin are a great shooting team and they’ve displayed their depth in the tournament.

Travis Trice has been the best player on MSU in the tourney. Trice finished with 18 points and 3 assists against the Buckeyes. He followed that up with 20 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal against MU.

Branden Dawson and Matt Costello have played well in both games too. Dawson has combined for 31 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 blocks and 1 steal. Costello comes off the bench, but he has averaged 8.5 PPG and 3.0 RPG in 21.0 MPG.

The Badgers have incredible scoring depth. Frank Kaminsky, Nigel Hayes, Sam Dekker and Bronson Koenig have put up double-digits in points in both games during the tourney. Kaminsky is third on the team in scoring through two games, but he does so much else.

Kaminsky only scored 12 points against Maryland, but he also had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks and just 1 turnover. He can fill-up the stat sheet quickly. The Badgers lack bench production and I’m worried the starters are going to be burned out.

I’m excited to watch these two offenses get to work in the Big Ten championship game, but I give the offensive edge to MSU, as they have a better punch off the bench in Costello. The Spartans aren’t one-dimensional and their ball movement is excellent.

Normally the Spartans are a defensive powerhouse, but that’s not the case in 2015. MSU don’t allow a lot of points, but Wisconsin have been much tighter on defense this season. In order for MSU to win this game they need to exploit the Badgers on the glass.

Wisconsin struggle at rebounding and the Spartans have the size to pick up a lot of second chances in the paint. The Spartans are averaging 12.0 ORPG in the tourney. Wisconsin just allowed Purdue to grab 9.0 ORPG and MSU should exceed that number.

The Badgers have been the better team on defense throughout the year, but the Spartans have stepped up in the tourney, as they come into the finals averaging 23.5 DRPG, 6.0 BPG and 5.5 SPG. Expect the Spartans to use their physicality tomorrow afternoon.

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Michigan State Spartans free picks

These teams played each other once during conference play and the Badgers won 66-61 at home. Kaminsky scored 31 points in that game and I don’t expect him to come close to that total in the finals. MSU will double-team him when necessary if need be.

Kaminsky was the only big threat in the first H2H game and if he can’t match his production I have no idea how the Badgers will win, especially on a neutral court. Bryn Forbes led the Spartans with 21 points in 23 minutes off the bench against Wisconsin.

I’m definitely betting on the Spartans at +6.5 points, but I’m also interested in the money line. I’m waiting for Bovada to release the money line. With the Spartans being a +6.5 point underdog – the ML odds should be high enough to warrant a wager.
