West Ham vs. Aston Villa Betting Odds & Tips

West Ham will host Aston Villa at the Boleyn Ground on August 18th 2012 to kick-off their Premier League campaigns. Villa barely escaped relegation last season while West Ham earned promotion back into the EPL after a 1-year hiatus. This match is going to be close on the scoreboard, but we’ve done our homework and found a couple great punts.

Matchday 1: West Ham vs. Aston Villa Betting Odds

It’s now only two weeks roughly until the 2012-2013 Premier League is underway. The UK bookmakers have posted odds for the matches on Matchday 1 already and that means punters have a lot of time to analyze the line movements. The Bet365 Mobile betting app even has Asian handicap odds posted for the West Ham vs. Aston Villa match already.

The Irons vs. The Lions Betting Analysis

This may seem like one of the toughest matches to predict, but not if you know what markets to look at. West Ham spent their 2011 season earning a spot in the Premier League after they were relegated in 2010. Last season the Irons scored an average of 1.75 GPG and they only conceded 1 GPG on average, but their goals against is a bit misleading.

West Ham struggled on the defensive side of the pitch a lot last season and it’s hard to say how The Irons will deal with the jump in competition now that they’re back in the Premier League. For some reason West Ham also had problems playing at home last season, as they only went 10-8-5 overall at home compared to 16-6-4 on the road.

Aston Villa was horrendous last season and they may not improve too much in 2012-13. Villa signed a couple new players, but no big names were signed yet during the summer transfer window. Aston Villa only scored an average of 1.05 GPG last season. That was a mix between a change in on-field tactics and the fact Villa lacks scorers.

Darren Bent went down with an injury last year and will need to be worked into the line-up slowly. Bent didn’t even play much in the 2011-12 season and he still outscored the rest of his team mates with 10 goals. Villa only won 4 matches on the road in 2011-12 and they conceded 32 goals in just 20 road games while only netting 22 goals.

West Ham vs. Aston Villa Betting Tips August 18th 2012

• Over 2.5 Goals at 2.16 Odds
• West Ham 0.25 Asian Handicap at 2.02 Odds

My best bet in this match is the O2.5 goals at 2.16 odds. West Ham struggled on defence last year and gave up a lot of late goals on set pieces. Aston Villa concedes a lot of away goals and in the opening match I expect West Ham to win 2-1. A safer bet is to wager on both teams to score in this match, but the odds are only 1.83 at Bet365 Mobile.
