Updated 2017 NCAA Football National Championship Odds

2017 CFB Playoff Futures BettingThe college football season starts on Friday, as California takes on Hawaii in Australia, but we’re still a week away until most teams start playing, so now is the perfect time to update the futures markets.

Four teams are priced under 10/1 odds to win the NCAA National Championship – those include Alabama (6/1), Clemson (8/1), Ohio State (9/1) and LSU (9/1).

The odds are from Bovada.lv and US bettors will get up to a $250 cash bonus when joining.

Top contenders to win the National Championship

Nick Saban and Alabama are coming off another National Championship and are ranked #1 in the AP Top 25 and Coaches preseason polls. Fans have high expectations again and the pressure is on Saban, as Alabama only returns six starters on offense and five starters on defense this season.

Derrick Henry is gone and the Crimson Tide will also be transitioning to a new QB (Cooper Bateman). The defense is expected to thrive again and has several senior leaders. Bama is a top contender, but it could be a tough season with road games against LSU, Tennessee and Ole Miss.

Can Clemson shake off last season’s loss to Bama in the National Championship? The Tigers return eight on offense, including Heisman candidate Deshaun Watson. The Tigers will have the best offense in the nation and undefeated regular season will basically be expected by Clemson fans.

The defense only returns four starters, but they’ll have all season to transition new starters into their roles before the CFB playoffs. Clemson may be able to ride the offense during the regular season, but once the playoffs start, Clemson will need to hold their own on defense to win a National Championship.

Urban Meyer is firmly in the spotlight at OSU and he’ll have a lot of work to do. The Buckeyes only return three starters on offense and defense. Most of last year’s skill players on offense are in the NFL, including Ezekiel Elliot (RB), Jalin Marshall (WR) and Michael Thomas (WR).

A Sepetember match-up on the road against Oklahoma will tell us a lot about whether or not the Buckeyes will contend for the National Championship. OSU also ends the season with a road game against MSU and a home game against Michigan. This will likely be a rebuilding year and OSU will miss the playoffs.

This is the best chance for the Tigers to win a National Championship. Alabama and Ohio State have a lot of starters gone, but the Tigers bring back nine starters on offense and ten on defense. Leonard Fournette is a Heisman candidate and Brandon Harris is back at QB to help lead the offense.

There’s no denying LSU is stacked this season. Talent wise, they can compete with everyone and LSU has an experience edge against other top contenders. Les Miles needs to produce and the only serious threat to an undefeated regular season is a home game against Alabama in November.

My first futures pick is on LSU to win the National Championship (9/1) at the Bovada Sportsbook.

Longshot pick to win the 2017 NCAAF National Championship

Stanford could definitely sneak into the CFB playoffs if one of the top contenders falter, but it won’t be an easy task. The Cardinals have tough games against USC, UCLA, Notre Dame and Oregon. The team will return five starters on offense and six starters on defense. However, QB Kevin Hogan has graduated.

Keller Chryst is the QB this season and the Cardinals need consistent play from him or else teams will be able to completely sell out on stopping Christian McCaffrey and the run game. The defense is largely intact, but the several starters that need to be replaced were big contributors last season.

With one of the best offensive lines and the best playmaker in college football, Stanford could surprise a lot of football fans this season. The Cardinals won’t dominate top tier competition, as they play a grinding style and the pass game is expected to be a weak point, but with some luck, they could go undefeated.

Bet on the Stanford Cardinals (30/1 @ Bovada) to win the title.
