UFC 251 Method of Victory Predictions and Odds

Jorge Masvidal(35-13) @ Kamaru Usman(16-1)

  • Where: Fight Island. Yas Island, Abu Dhabi
  • When: July 11, 2020 3:00 pm EST
  • Moneyline: Kamaru Usman (-300) vs. Jorge Masvidal (+230)
  • Over / Under: Over 4.5 Rounds (+125) vs. Under 4.5 Rounds (-155)

UFC 251 Usman vs. Masvidal PredictionsUFC 251 is Saturday night (ET time) on pay-per-view (PPV).

This is the first event at the new “Fight Island”. Well, technically not. Fight Island is actually Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and the UFC have hosted three events on the island previously.

Three other UFC events have been hosted on the island – the last one was UFC 242 in 2019.

The UFC are scheduled to host four events on Fight Island in July.

Gilbert Burns Out of the Main Event After Testing Positive for COVID-19

Initially, Kamaru Usman was supposed to fight Gilbert Burns, but Burns and his coach both tested positive for COVID-19. The UFC quickly found a replacement for the UFC 251 main event.

Usman will now defend his title against veteran Jorge Masvidal.

Kamaru Usman (-300) vs. Jorge Masvidal (+230)

Masvidal (35-13) went 3-0 in 2019 with TKO/KO wins against Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz. It has earned him a big payday and a title shot against The Nigerian Nightmare.

Usman (16-1) is going to retain the title and defeat Gamebred, but he’s a -300 favorite. Usman is 11-0 in the UFC, but one knock on him has been that he has won eight of those fights by decision.

He’s coming off a TKO win in the 5th round against Colby Covington, though.

I don’t know which way to go for the method of victory, but I’ll definitely have Usman on my parlays.

Petr Yan vs. Jose Aldo Predictions and Odds

This is my best bet on the entire UFC 251 fight card. This is a mismatch.

Yan (14-1) is 6-0 in the UFC (3 Wins by TKO/KO). He has picked apart his last three opponents. He just knocked out Urijah Faber at UFC 245. He also defeated John Dodson and Jimmie Rivera.

Aldo (28-6) shouldn’t even be getting a title shot at bantamweight. In his first fight at 135 lbs, he lost to Marlon Moraes by split decision. It was a close fight, but should he get a title shot?

No Mercy is an active striker (5.65 SLpM) with power and solid takedowns. He averages 1.73 TDs per 15 minutes in the cage. He has landed multiple takedowns in three of his last four fights.

The small concern is Aldo has a 3’’ reach advantage. However, once Yan tires Aldo out and is able to close the distance, his power will be enough to finish Aldo, just like he did to Faber.

Makwan Amirkhani vs. Danny Henry Predictions and Odds

Amirkhani (15-4) is 5-2 in the UFC, but he’s coming off a loss to Shane Burgos (TKO). He’ll be facing another aggressive striker in Danny Henry (12-3). Henry averages 5.85 SLpM.

Henry has a huge edge in the striking department, but he doesn’t have the power of Burgos. He’s a capable grappler and has 5 submission wins, but Amirkhani has 10 wins by submission.

Mr. Finland has only been tapped once back in 2011 when he was fighting with KFN. Henry had never been tapped out prior to his last fight, but Ige submitted him in the opening round.

After taking a lot of damage in his last fight (Burgos landed 105 strikes), Amirkhani would be smart to take this fight to the mat as fast as possible and lock in a submission for the win.

Volkan Oezdemir vs. Jiri Prochazka Predictions and Odds

Prochazka (26-3-1) is making his UFC debut. He has won 23 fights by KO/TKO in his career and he’s only 27 years old. He’ll be fighting Volkan Oezdemir (17-4) who is tough as nails.

No Time has won his last two fights. He defeated Ilir Latifi (KO) and Aleksandar Rakic (SD) in 2019.

Denisa had an even better 2019 fighting with Rizin FF. He fought three times in 2019 and won all of them by TKO/KO. He defeated Muhammed Lawal, Fabio Maldonado and C.B. Dollaway.

Only one fighter has been able to knockout Oezdemir and that’s Daniel Cormier (UFC 220).

This fight is most likely going to end by stoppage with one fighter getting the KO/TKO. I’m siding with the underdog here. Oezdemir has the experience edge, but Prochazka will be motivated.
