UFC 237: Namajunas vs. Andrade Predictions and ML Odds

Jessica Andrade(19-6) @ Rose Namajunas(8-3)

  • Where: Jeunesse Arena. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • When: May 11, 2019 6:00 pm EST
  • Moneyline: Jessica Andrade -130 vs. Rose Namajunas +100

The UFC is heading back to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for UFC 237. The first four prelim fights will be broadcasted on Fight Pass, the next four prelim fights are on ESPN and the PPV main card can be purchased through ESPN+ only again, which I’m not a fan of after UFC 236.

Betting on the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship at UFC 237

Rose Namajunas vs Jessica Andrade at UFC 237Rose Namajunas (8-3) is back in the cage after over a year layoff due to injuries. Will she be the same fighter that defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk twice? If she is, she’ll likely defend the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship for the second time. However, if there’s any rust in her game at all, Jessica Andrade (19-6) is the type of fighter to make her pay.

Namajunas has shown she can win by TKO/KO, submission or decision in her career, but she would be wise to treat this fight like she did in her last fight. She was able to outpoint Jedrzejczyk by keeping her distance in the stand-up. Andrade isn’t polished, but she has the most raw power in the division and she’ll be looking for the TKO/KO, which is why it’s important Rose doesn’t get caught in too close.

Andrade is also a capable wrestler – she averages over a takedown per round. If she gets top position on you, you’re in a world of hurt. However, the best bet is on Namajunas at even money. She shouldn’t be the underdog, even with the fight being in Brazil.

Rose will need to utilize her height (5’5’’ vs. 5’1’’) and reach (65’’ vs. 62’’) advantages to avoid being taken down and to keep Andrade from landing too many power strikes. Andrade absorbs a lot of strikes (5.04 SApM) and Namajunas will outpoint her in a decision win.

UFC 237 Best Bets on the Main Card

Jose Aldo (28-4) has a ton of name recognition in the UFC, but he has been knocked out three times since 2015. Granted, those came against McGregor and Holloway (2x). Aldo is on a two-fight win streak with victories against Stephens (TKO) and Carneiro (TKO).

Alex Volkanovski (19-1) is 6-0 since joining the UFC in 2016 and he’s fresh off a TKO win over Mendes at the end of last year. Volkanovski has 11 TKO/KO career wins and this is a huge opportunity for him to make a name for himself The Aussie averages 6.06 SLpM and 3.37 takedowns per 15 minutes. Also is susceptible to power strikers and I’m on the underdog.

Anderson Silva (34-9-0-1) is 44-years-old and who knows how many more times he’ll get in the cage. I believe the UFC set-up this fight to give Silva a chance to win in Brazil. He’ll be fighting Jared Cannonier (11-4) who is only 4-4 in the UFC since joining in 2015. Cannonier won his last fight by TKO against Branch, but had lost two in a row prior to the win.

These two match-up well. Silva is 3’’ taller, but both fighters have a 77’’ reach. This fight will be fought standing up, as neither fighter earns many takedowns. Cannonier lands more strikes (3.63 SLpM vs. 3.06 SLpM), but he also absorbs more (2.83 SApM vs. 1.96 SApM).

The key for Silva to earn another victory in front of his countrymen is to avoid big strikes and keep his distance. He’s the master of movement in the cage. Only Weidman has ever been able to knockout Silva so Cannonier is unlikely too. If this fight is going to the judges’ scorecards, there’s definitely value on Silva as an underdog fighting in Brazil.

Another UFC veteran from Brazil is Thiago Alves (23-13). Alves fought in February and won by split decision against Griffin, but prior to the win he had lost four of five fights. I’ll be on the much younger Laureano Starpoli (8-1) despite his inexperience. Starpoli won his debut in the UFC against Aldana and now he has a chance to get a win against a big name.

Sure, Alves isn’t the same fighter he was in year’s past, as he’s now 35-years-old, but Alves is still a fighter with name recognition and Staropoli would love to get the win. The fighter from Argentina has seven wins by stoppage (5 TKO/KO and 2 Submissions), so look for him to end the fight. Alves has been knocked out three times and submitted four times.

The UFC 237 main card is full of great fights that are all expected to be close. We aren’t going to have to worry about paying a lot of juice on the main card. Make sure you join the Bovada Sportsbook and claim your $250 in bonus bets prior to UFC 237 on Saturday.
