The Spurs are small favourites in this match in the 1X2 market due to the match being played at White Hart Lane. Arsenal is a small underdog and the draw is currently priced the highest in the 1X2 odds market.

The Spurs v The Gunners Betting Preview

We have two of the hottest teams in the Premier League in this match-up. Tottenham (15-6-6) hasn’t lost in their L11 (7-4-0) and Arsenal (13-8-6) is undefeated in their L5 matches (4-1-0) during league play. Neither team will want to lose 3 pts in this match.

At White Hart Lane the Hotspurs are an excellent 7-4-2 this season with losses against Chelsea (4-2) and Wigan (1-0). The reason for the Spurs success at home has been due to their defence. The team only concedes an average of 1.00 GPG at home.

Tottenham has had trouble scoring at home though and they’re below the league average. Home teams score an average of 1.61 GPG in the Premier League, but Tottenham has only been averaging 1.54 GPG this season at home, which is pretty bad.

The Gunners have been decent in away matches this season with a 5-5-3 record away from the Emirates. Arsenal has lost against Norwich City (1-0), Manchester United (2-1) and Chelsea (2-1) in away matches with the only regrettable loss against the Canaries.

Arsenal suffers from the same thing as Tottenham, which is goal scoring. Arsenal averages 1.31 GPG in away matches compared to the 2.50 GPG that they score on average at the Emirates. The big difference in production is definitely a concern.

Defensively the Gunners are one of the best away teams in the Premier League. The Gunners have kept a clean sheet in 38.5% of their away matches while only conceding an average of 0.85 GPG, which is way above the league average in both statistics.

When we look at the H2H between Tottenham v Arsenal we can see that both teams split the series last year. Tottenham won at home 2-1 while Arsenal won 5-2 at home. Earlier this season in November the Gunners also beat the Spurs 5-2 at the Emirates.

Tottenham v Arsenal Best Bets

Below are my favourite betting tips for Tottenham v Arsenal on 3 March 2013.

The O2.5 goals market has already been getting bet into early this week due to bettors looking at the H2H. The L5 matches in the Premier League between these two squads have gone O2.5 goals, but I expect a low scoring match and I’ll explain why.

Arsenal has had a nice run lately, but 4 of their L5 matches have been at the Emirates where they play better. Arsenal is having a hard time scoring away from the Emirates and that won’t be easier against a Spurs back line that concedes just 1 GPG at home.

Tottenham is also one of the worst scoring teams in the league at home and trying to score on this Arsenal defence is going to be tough due to their strong back line. I’m confident that this will be a defensive match where 1 goal could secure the victory.

Tottenham just played West Ham on Monday and now they have a short week to prepare for the Gunners. Arsenal has dominated the Spurs 5-2 in the L2 H2H matches, but those were at the Emirates, so don’t expect Arsenal to blowout Tottenham.

This is a huge match for Arsenal if they want to keep pace on the league table with the Spurs, especially if Tottenham beats WHU on Monday. Santi Cazorla has scored the L3 goals for Arsenal in league play and he now has 11 goals on the season.

Cazorla is tied with Theo Walcott for 1st in goals scored on Arsenal with 11. Cazorla leads the team in away goals (7). I also like the fact that Tottenham’s leading scorers Gareth Bale (15) and Jermain Defoe (10) score just 32% of their goals at White Hart Lane.

This is a longshot that I’d advise only betting a ¼ or ½ unit on, but I really expect this match to be low scoring. Both teams have played a lot of football lately and aren’t well rested. If the Gunners can make it 1-0 they’ll do their best to sit back and hang on.

The goal scorer markets aren’t up yet for this match, but when they come up look for Santi Cazorla to score 1st for Arsenal. In the L2 Arsenal league matches Cazorla is the only player to have scored for the Gunners and he has been in great form recently.
