Titans vs. Colts Betting Lines

Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts

When: 1:00pm ET. Sunday, December 9th 2012
Where: Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Indianapolis Colts 8-4 (8-4 ATS) host the Tennessee Titans 4-8 (4-8 ATS) in an AFC South division match-up. The Colts beat the Titans 19-13 on the road in week 8, and with so much on the line for the Colts I expect them to win.

Latest Titans/Colts Lines

Indianapolis opened as a -3.5 point favorite, but they’ve already been bet up to -5 (-115) at BetOnline. Early action has come in on the under this week, as the opening line of 49.5 has been bet down to 46.5 at most online & mobile betting sites.

Titans/Colts Matchup & Betting Analysis

Tennessee is 0-4 (0-4 ATS) in the AFC South this season. They were blown out twice by the Texans and they also lost 24-19 versus the Jaguars. As mentioned above, the Titans were unable to beat the Colts at home earlier this year, in a game they should have won.

The Colts currently own the 1st wild card spot with a few weeks left to play. They have a 2-1 record in the division, but they also have a 5-1 (5-1 ATS) record at home, with their only loss at Lucas Oil Stadium coming against Jacksonville (22-17).

Andrew Luck vs. Titans Passing Defense

Rookie QB Andrew Luck is having a great season and the Colts rank 5th in passing yards (285.6 PYPG). Luck should have a chance to throw for 300+ yards this weekend against the Titans defense that currently ranks 26th (257.5 PYPG) against the pass.

Bet on NFL Football – U.S. Friendly

Reggie Wayne leads the league in targets this season (152) and he leads the team with 88 catches for 1156 yards. Wayne is a great veteran leader, but four other players have over 20 receptions as well (Avery – 49, Hilton – 39, Allen – 36 & Fleener – 22).

Andrew Luck will move the football around, but he’d be wise to throw to Wayne who usually tears up this division foe. Wayne has caught 97 passes for 1299 receiving yards and 8 TD’s in his career versus the Titans (21 games). Take him on your fantasy teams as well.

One key to stopping Luck is to put pressure on him, but the Titans only rank 23rd in sacks (23) this season. Wimbley is probable for the game, but if he doesn’t play then the only sack threat on the Titans D-line is Ayers who has 4 sacks this year.

Titans Rushing Offense vs. Colts Passing Defense

For the Colts to cover the point spread this week they need to limit the Titans run game. Chris Johnson is still putting up good numbers, now just 7 yards short of 1000, and gaining 4.7 yards per carry. He may not be the threat he used to be, but he’s still capable of doing serious damage.

The Titans only rank 19th in rushing yards (105.4 RYPG), but the Colts have struggled against the run (122.6 RYPG – 22nd). In the 1st meeting between these teams Johnson ran for 99 yards, but the Colts kept him out of the endzone in that game.

Punishing Jake Locker

Titans QB Jake Locker threw for 309 yards last week, but he was only 21/45 and had 3 INT’s with just 1 TD against Houston. He picked up most of his yardage in garbage time and he didn’t look good at all.

The Colts pass defense only ranks 20th (240.4 PYPG), but with the way Locker is playing they should be able to limit him. If they slow down Johnson in the run game, Locker should make a few mistakes and the Colts will be able to run away late in this game.

Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts Predictions

Bet Colts -5 (-115) at BetOnline.com

My pick is the Colts to cover the spread at home. They beat the Titans by 6 on the road earlier this year, and they’re only getting better. Luck should have a field day against the Titans secondary and the motivation of the Colts is going to be much greater than the Titans on Sunday.
