Thunder vs. Spurs Betting Lines

What: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs
When: 9:30PM EST. Thursday, November 1, 2012
Where: AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas

The Oklahoma City Thunder were unable to win the NBA Finals last year after losing 4-1 in to Miami. However, they eliminated the San Antonio Spurs in 6-games (4-2) in the Western Conference Finals, and are looking for another win against them on Thursday night.

San Antonio is going to want revenge from last year’s playoffs, and the Thunder will want to jump out to a fast start this season to erase the memory of the NBA Finals. Expect a high tempo and emotional basketball game in this tilt.

San Antonio is a -2.5 point home favorite against the Thunder tomorrow night. The over/under is currently sitting at O/U 201 and the money line odds in this match-up are Spurs -150 / Thunder +130. I don’t think we’ll see much movement before tip-off.

Will the Thunder Upset the Spurs in San Antonio on Thursday?

I was actually surprised to see the Spurs listed as a favorite in this game. San Antonio’s Manu Ginobli is injured and isn’t going to be ready for tomorrow night. OKC on the other hand is 100% healthy heading into the new season with high expectations.

OKC didn’t add much talent to the roster this off-season, but they did bring in Hasheem Thabeet and I think Perry Jones III will be able to contribute a bit in his rookie season. Even without any signings OKC is still one of the best teams in the NBA.

The Thunder projected starting five is Russell Westbrook, Thabo Sefolosha, Kevin Durant, Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins. This is a solid starting five plus they still have production on the bench from players like Kevin Martin, Nick Collison and Eric Maynor.

SA isn’t a team that will “wow” you anymore, but they get it done with tons of depth. Many players on the Spurs averaged over 20 MPG last season and that’ll have to be the case again this year, as the Spurs didn’t add any new additions to the team.

Kawhi Leonard is in the starting rotation and has emerged as a solid player that works hard every night. Parker and Duncan are getting older, but they still have enough in the tank for another run at an NBA title. Once Ginobli is back he’ll pitch in as well.

Last season these two teams ranked very close to each other in most categories. The Thunder averaged 102.6 PPG (3rd) and they allowed 96.7 PPG (17th) while the Spurs scored an average of 103.4 PPG (2nd) and gave up an average of 96.4 PPG (16th).

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs Predictions

Bet on the Thunder Money Line +130 @ BetOnline

With the point spread so low in this game there is more value betting the OKC money line at BOL. With Ginobli out the Spurs will be missing their best closer and I don’t think the bench will make up for his production in game 1 of the season.

Bet on the Over 201 (-110) @ BetOnline

I also like the over in this game. It’s the 1st game of the season and both teams are going to want to get rolling early on. I expect a lot of points just like the Heat vs. Celtics game last night. In the 6 playoff games last year between these two the two teams averaged 207.2 PPG and only two of the games had less than 200 points.
