Seahawks vs. Patriots Over/Under Betting – Super Bowl XLIX

New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks Preview – 2015 NFL Super Bowl

Start Time: Sunday, February 1st 2015 at 6:30pm ET
Location: University of Phoenix Stadium
Station: NBC

The Super Bowl is just about here! The festivities are almost over and it’s just about time to get down to business. I’m sick and tired of hearing about Deflategate and just want to watch the game. This time around I’ll be discussing the over/under market.

We have an interesting match-up in the 2015 NFL Super Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks rely on a strong defense to win a lot of games whereas the New England Patriots rely on piling up the points typically. Which team will be able to control the tempo on Sunday?

I thought the total was high initially when I seen it, but after thinking about the total isn’t that bad considering the way the Patriots are scoring points in the playoffs. You may also want to consider the team totals rather than the game total this weekend.

Will the 2015 Super Bowl Go Over or Under the Total?

This game could be played out in a number of ways in my mind. We have two offenses that rank in the top ten in scoring, as Seattle scores 24.6 PPG (10th) and the Patriots score 29.2 PPG (4th). New England has averaged 40.0 PPG in two playoff games thus far.

These two defenses ranked in the top ten this season as well. The Patriots allowed 19.6 PPG (8th) while the Seahawks allowed 15.9 PPG (1st). Both defenses are allowing less than 20.0 PPG in the playoffs, which makes it tough predicting which way this will go.

New England won a close game against Baltimore (35-31) before dominating the Colts (45-7). Seattle beat Carolina (31-17) with ease and then needed a miracle to beat Green Bay (28-22) in OT. Seattle’s comeback was one of the best I’ve watched in the playoffs.

There aren’t many previous H2H match-ups between these teams to look at either. Russell Wilson has played the Patriots once back in 2012 and Seattle won 24-23 at home. This game will be on a neutral field, so the Seahawks won’t have the 12th man support.

So far we’ve seen the Patriots air it out one game (BAL) and run the other game (IND). I expect a balanced approach because Seattle doesn’t have a weakness. Bill Belichick knows that his best bet will be to mix things up between Tom Brady and LeGarrette Blount.

When Blount has been given a fair shake he has produced and he’s the type of power RB that can move the pile. The way I see this game being played out is in the trenches. Brady will likely throw a lot of screens and short routes on this Seattle secondary.

Russell Wilson will use his feet more in this match-up and I expect him to throw it less early on unless they’re forced to because they end up down. Wilson struggled against the Packers and Pete Carroll won’t allow that to happen again by throwing too often.

Since 2002 the Patriots have been in the Super Bowl five times and four of those games had 45 points or less. Seattle has been in the Super Bowl twice since 2006 and the over/under is 1-1, but last year’s over was mainly because of the turnovers by Denver.

Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots O/U Best Bet

I think this game is going to end right around the total, but I’ll be betting on the under. Betting on the under is tough because if there is a special teams or defensive TD it could change the entire game. I’m banking on both of these teams running the football early.

This match-up doesn’t feel like it’ll turn into a shootout. The Seahawks offense is limited and rarely converts a big play. Seattle is also strong on defense and should keep the Patriots out of the endzone for the most part. I like Seattle to win 24-21 or in that range.
