Seahawks vs. Giants Over/Under NFL Week 15 Analysis

Seattle Seahawks vs. New York Giants Game Preview

Start Time: Sunday, December 15th 2013 at 1:00pm ET
Location: MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey
TV Station: Watch Live on FOX

The Seattle Seahawks (11-2) have already clinched a spot in the playoffs, but after their loss to the 49ers (19-17) last week they still have a bit of work to do to clinch the NFC West. The New York Giants (5-8) have an outside chance to make the playoffs still.

What is the Game Total in SEA vs. NYG

Seattle has a strong defensive unit, but they haven’t been as good on the road this season when compared to at home. I think that the over/under of 41.5 points was set too low in this one. I expect a high scoring shootout at MetLife Stadium with Seattle winning.

Five Reasons Why I’m Betting on the Over

Marshawn Lynch has 1042 rushing yards (4.3 YPA) and 10 rushing touchdowns this season. Seattle averages 141.5 RYPG (3rd) and the G-Men are allowing 105.4 RYPG (11th). Look for Seattle to build a lead and let Lynch run wild in the backfield the rest of the game.

Eli Manning has thrown 20 INT’s (4.4% of his pass attempts) this season. The Giants have thrown more interceptions per game (1.6) than any other team in the league. Seattle averages 2.2 takeaways per game (1st) and the defense will be able to feast on Manning.

The Seahawks are scoring 27.5 PPG (4th) on offense while the G-Men have been allowing 25.7 PPG (21st). The Giants have had some better defensive performances the 2nd half of the season, but they have been sporadic and against top offenses they struggle.

They need to win their next three games to have a remote chance at making the playoffs this season. They’re going to be desperate against the Seahawks at home this week. The Giants score 19.3 PPG (28th), which is bad, but enough for this total to go way over.

You rarely see me mention H2H trends in my prediction articles, but these two teams have gone over the total the last 4 times that they’ve played. It wouldn’t shock me if the Seahawks score over 40+ points on their own and they won’t shutout the G-Men.

Players That Need a Breakout Performance

Andre Brown has quietly had a decent season when healthy. He is averaging 4.3 yards per rushing attempt and he’ll need to have a big game. Seattle allows 111.5 RYPG (14th) and they’ve had some real problems against certain running backs this season.

Seattle has nice depth at WR, which has been evident all season. Injuries to Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin haven’t hurt this team as much as many expected. The last two weeks the Seahawks TE’s have combined for 10 catches for 171 receiving yards and 2 TD’s.

The G-Men have 12 interceptions on defense this year and they need to try and get some this week to keep this game close. Rolle has 5 interceptions while 7 other players each have 1 INT. Rolle is the main threat in the Giants secondary and he has to play well.

Sherman and Thomas lead Seattle with 4 interceptions each, but neither of them has been forcing turnovers lately. Seattle averages 1.31 interceptions per game, but they only have 1 in their last two games. Look for that to change on Sunday against Eli.

Seahawks vs. Giants Picks

The Giants defense has had trouble stopping most offenses this season despite playing a fairly weak schedule. Seattle has one of the most balanced offenses in the NFL that can get it done through the air or on the ground and that isn’t good news for New York.

I also like the Seahawks to cover the –6.5 point spread, but I feel this total is the better bet this week. Don’t be surprise if this total goes up, so jump on it now at the Bovada Sportsbook while you still can. I expect 50+ points to be scored in this match-up.
