Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers – TNF Week 7 Preview
When: Thursday, October 22nd 2015 at 8:25pm ET
Where: Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California
Watch: CBS & NFL Network
WHO would have thought this match-up would determine last place in the NFC West?
The Seattle Seahawks 2-4 (1-4-1 ATS) and San Francisco 49ers 2-4 (3-3 ATS) are the bottom feeders in the division through six weeks of the regular season. The 49ers were expected to struggle, but the Seahawks were not and they need to pick up a victory on the road.
Seattle have now lost two games in a row against the Bengals (27-24) and Panthers (27-23).
San Francisco won last week against the Ravens at home (25-20) and Colin Kaepernick threw for 340 yards and 2 TDs in the game. He’s unlikely to match that number against Seattle, but will the Niners win?

Early action has been split on the over/under, but it’s only Monday. Sharps have been betting Seattle since the point spread opened up at -4 points and we’ve seen the spread skyrocket to -5.5 points already.
Offensive and defensive statistics
Here’s a stat pack outlining how each team has been performing on offense and defense.
- Points Scored: Seahawks 22.3 PPG (17th) vs. 49ers 16.7 PPG (32nd)
- Passing Yards (OFF): Seahawks 214.5 PYPG (27th) vs. 49ers 202.8 PYPG (29th)
- Rushing Yards (OFF): Seahawks 137.8 RYPG (2nd) vs. 49ers 118.3 RYPG (12th)
- Points Allowed: Seahawks 20.8 PPG (11th) vs. 49ers 26.7 PPG (25th)
- Passing Yards (DEF): Seahawks 219.8 PYPG (5th) vs. 49ers 306.2 PYPG (32nd)
- Rushing Yards (DEF): Seahawks 99.7 RYPG (13th) vs. 49ers 102.8 RYPG (15th)
- Turnover Ratio: Seahawks +2 (13th) vs. 49ers -2 (19th)
The 49ers turnover ratio has been getting better, but they still rank 19th in that category. More surprisingly – the 49ers rank dead last in passing yards allowed. That won’t get it done when you rank 29th in passing offense.
On paper, it’s clear to see the Seahawks are better in every single statistical category above.
Seahawks vs. 49ers ATS pick
I’m a believer of looking at recent trends to help assist me in handicapping.
These two teams play each other a lot and are very familiar with each other. They played each other three times in 2014 – once in the 2013-14 NFL playoffs and twice during last year’s regular season.
Seattle won all thee games by a combined score of 59-27. The 49ers have only gotten worse since then and while the Seahawks may not have improved, they certainly haven’t fell off the map like San Francisco.
In the two regular season games last year, the Niners scored 3 and 7 points.
The Seahawks passing offense is still struggling, but it isn’t TE Jimmy Graham’s fault. He leads the team with 29 receptions for 344 yards and 2 TDs. Tyler Lockett is a player that has to start producing more frequently.
When the Seahawks allow 27+ points, they lose. So, the question to ask yourself is will the 49ers score 27+ points at home on Thursday night football? San Fran has scored 27 points once this season, so it’s unlikely.
Russell Wilson is going to have a monster game. The 49ers secondary hasn’t stopped anyone and Wilson will be able to pick them apart. Graham and Doug Baldwin are the two receivers to keep an eye on.
Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith are starting to play better for the 49ers, but the Ravens and Giants both have poor passing defenses. In week 3 and 4, the Niners scored 3 points against GB and 7 points against Arizona.
Best bet in the SEA at SF over/under betting market
Dating back to 2013, these teams have played each other five times and none of the match-ups have ended with more than 40 points. This is a low game total, but bet on the under 41.5 points in the Seahawks vs. 49ers.
Neither team has been scoring many points this year either. Marshawn Lynch is playing again, but hasn’t looked himself since getting banged up. When he isn’t clicking the Seahawks offense isn’t as big of a threat.
