Ravens vs. Patriots Betting Lines – AFC Divisional Round

Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots Preview

When: Saturday, January 10th 2015 at 4:35pm ET
Where: Gillette Stadium in Foxborough
Watch: NBC

The New England Patriots (12-4) won the AFC East and had a bye last week in the opening round of the playoffs. They’ll be at home in the divisional round to host the Baltimore Ravens (10-6). The Ravens just upset Pittsburgh on the road in the wild card round.

These two teams don’t play each other often during the regular season, but they have a history together in the playoffs. Based on how well these teams know each other I’d bet that this game will come down to the wire and one mistake could prove costly.

Ravens vs. Patriots Point Spread & Over/Under

Bet on the AFC Divisional Round Playoffs at the Bovada Sportsbook ($250 Bonus).

More of the action has been coming in on the Ravens slightly, but we haven’t seen this line drop at all. The over/under is already down 1.5 points since opening with about 60% of the action on the under. In this article I’ll be detailing my point spread prediction.

BAL @ NE Stats at a Glance

Both of these defenses are in the T10 in points allowed, so hitting the total is questionable in my opinion. The Patriots offense has been rolling though and they could easily put up 30+ in this match-up, as the Ravens defense isn’t what it was a couple years ago.

Why I’m Betting on the Patriots to Cover ATS

Tom Brady and the Patriots offense are ranked 9th in passing yards (257.6 PYPG), but only 18th in rushing yards (107.9 RYPG). I can guarantee that Bill Belichick will have a pass first game plan utilized in this one, as that’s how you’re going to beat the Ravens.

Baltimore has a front seven that only gives up 88.2 RYPG (4th), but the secondary is allowing 248.7 PYPG (23rd). Brady has done well to build up chemistry with his receivers and it should pay off in the playoffs. All of the skill players on the NE offense are healthy.

Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski and Brandon LaFell all finished the season with 74+ receptions and 950+ yards. It took awhile for these guys to get going, but they’ve been playing great for a couple months now and they’ve had plenty of time to rest up.

I doubt Belichick will commit to the run against the Ravens front seven, as he trusts Brady to get the job done in the playoffs. They can’t afford to lose on first down all game long because it’ll allow the Ravens to pressure Brady on automatic passing downs.

This Ravens offense isn’t overly explosive, but they average 238.7 PYPG (13th) and 126.2 RYPG (8th). Joe Flacco looked great against Pittsburgh, as he completed 18 of 29 passes for 259 passing yards and 2 TD’s. The key thing was he didn’t have a turnover.

New England allows 239.8 PYPG (17th) and 104.3 RYPG (9th), so the defense definitely has some holes still. I expect the secondary to really step up in the playoffs. They have some awesome talent in the secondary and if they can force a couple turnovers it’d be huge.

Justin Forsett has been disappointing lately and the Ravens likely won’t look to run the football that much anyways. In a shootout between Brady and Flacco I’ll gladly put my money on Brady, especially in the playoffs when he’s playing at Gillette Stadium.

Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots Predictions

This spread is big, but I feel it’s big for a reason. The Patriots are great at home, especially in the playoffs and if the weather is poor I give Brady a huge edge over Flacco. The public is taking the points in this match-up, which is always a scary proposition.

I rarely bet on underdogs that are being bet on by the public. This will be close early on, but the Patriots are efficient and they have a defense that’s capable of forcing turnovers in the secondary. I’d wait to see if you can get –6.5, but either way bet on the Patriots.
