Patriots vs. Seahawks Betting Lines

What: New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks – Week 6, 2012
When: 4:05pm EST. Sunday, October 14th 2012
Where: CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington

I have a feeling that the New England Patriots 3-2 (4-1 ATS) and Seattle Seahawks 3-2 (3-2 ATS) will be one of the closest games of week 6. The main reason is because the Seahawks are one of the best home teams in the NFL, and they have a great head coach in Pete Carroll.

New England vs. Seattle Betting Lines

The Patriots opened up as a -3 point favorite on the spread. The spread is now up to -3.5 to -4 points depending on the book. I’ve picked the Seahawks in this game and the best odds you’ll get right now is +4 (-115) at Bovada.lv.

Seahawks vs. Patriots Betting Preview

This game is going to come down to whether or not the Seahawks defense can slow down the Patriots offense. In the last two weeks the Patriots have put up 52 points on the road against Buffalo, and 31 points at home against the Broncos.

Tom Brady and Stevan Ridley put up big numbers in the last two games. The Pats offense is ranked 3rd in rushing (165.4 RYPG), 9th in passing yards (274 PYPG) and 1st in points scored (33 PPG), which obviously means that Seattle needs to play great defense.

At home this season, the Seahawks are 2-0 with a 27-7 win over the Cowboys and a 14-12 win (cough) over the Packers. There was a terrible call at the end of the Packers game that handed Seattle the win, but the Seahawks were in the game the entire way due to their defense.

Seattle allows less total yards on defense than any other team (258.6 YPG – 1st). The Seahawks have been able to stop the rush (66.6 RYPG – 3rd) and the pass (192 PYPG – 5th) this season on defense and they’ve only allowed an average of 14 PPG (2nd).

The key on defense for Seattle is to shut down Ridley, which will force Brady to throw the football (although not necessarily a good thing). The Cardinals shut down Ridley in week 2, and Arizona won that game 20-18 at Foxborough. If Seattle can do the same I like their chances to win outright.

Offensively, the Seahawks will need to trust Russell Wilson a bit more. He had 2 INT’s last week, but apart from that he was very accurate (19/23 completions for 221 yards and 1 TD). It appears the starting job is still his, as Pete Carroll was still praising him this week.

The Patriots have struggled against the pass this season on defense (291.6 PYPG – 30th) and Wilson will need to establish a solid passing attack early on. That could open up running room for Lynch who has had a great season up to this point.

Seattle ranks 7th in rushing yards this year with an average of 140.2 RYPG, but the Patriots rank 8th (82.2 RYPG) at stopping the run. That means Wilson will need to be on his game this week to ensure the Pats can’t fill the line to stop Lynch.

New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks Point Spread Pick

Bet on Seattle Seahawks +4 (-115) @ Bovada

I debated betting on the Seahawks money line (+160 @ Bovada), but I’d rather have the +4 points. This should be a close game to end and I think it comes down to a last minute FG. Getting +4 on the Seahawks at home is too good to pass up.
