NASCAR Darlington 400 PredictionsThe UFC was the first major sport back in the US and now NASCAR is back as well.

NASCAR is planning on running four races between May 17th-27th starting with the Darlington 400 at the Darlington Raceway in South Carolina this Sunday on FOX.

There are hopes that NASCAR will experience a ratings boost, as most sports remain postponed. One thing’s for sure, there will be a lot of people looking to bet on these NASCAR races.

Bovada is offering a 50% bonus for up to $250 to bet on the upcoming NASCAR races.

The pandemic is changing NASCAR, though. There will be no practice or qualifying for most of the upcoming races. The starting grid will be determined based on owner points and a random draw.

There will also be modified competition caution procedures in place. For the Darlington 400, there will be a competition caution on lap 30, allowing drivers/teams to make adjustments.

Top Contenders to Win the Darlington 400

Here are the seven drivers priced under 10/1: Kyle Busch (+600), Denny Hamlin (+700), Kevin Harvick (+700), Chase Elliott (+750), Martin Truex Jr. (+800), Joey Logano (+85) and Brad Keselowski (+900).

Out of the top contenders, these four drivers have the best chance at winning on Sunday:

Kyle Busch is 11th in the Cup Series standings (111 Points) and is winless this season. Busch has been consistent at Darlington, finishing in the top 7 in six of the last seven races at this track.

The problem I have with Busch is he hasn’t won at Darlington since 2008.

Denny Hamlin is tied with Busch in the Cup Series with 111 points. Hamlin won the Daytona 500 back in February prior to the season being postponed and he’s always a threat at Darlington.

Hamlin has a career average finish position of 7.79 at this track, including two wins (2010 and 2017).

Kevin Harvick is leading the Cup Series (164 Points) through the first four races. He hasn’t won yet, but he has two top 5’s and four top 10’s. He has also led 159 laps (2nd) this season.

Harvick has finished no worse than 9th in the last seven races at Darlington. He finished top 5 in six of those races, including a win in 2014, but that’s his lone career win at this track.

Brad Keselowski is 9th in the Cup Series (118 Points) with two top 10 finishes already.

Keselowski has finished in the top 3 three times at Darlington in 11 career races. He won here in 2018 after only leading 24 laps and while he’s a contender, I don’t expect him to win on Sunday.

2020 Darlington 400 Best Bets to Win

Hamlin may be overlooked a bit this weekend, as he finished 29th at this track last year.

He has the best career average finish position out of active drivers with 10+ races at Darlington. He has been consistent here. In 14 career races at Darlington, Hamlin has finished top 3 six times.

I’m going to take a shot at Jones to repeat at 16/1 odds. He won at Darlington last year after leading 79 laps. In three career races at this track, Jones has finished 1st (2019), 8th (2018) and 5th (2017).

Jones hasn’t had a great start to the 2020 NASCAR season. He won the Clash at Daytona, but in the four Cup Series races he has only had one top 10 and he’s 21st in the standings (77 Points).

I expect Jones to be pumped up about the next two Cup Series races being held at Darlington, as he has had a lot of success here and he could jump right up the standings with a victory.

NASCAR Schedule for May 2020

NASCAR wants to make up for races they had to postpone. That means May is going to be busy and there are going to be a total of four Cup Series races in only 11 days.

Here are the four Cup Series races scheduled for May:

With the UFC and NASCAR back, it feels like we’re making some progress. I wonder what league will be next back? Could we see MLB, NBA or NHL back next? We’ll keep everyone updated.
