NASCAR 2012 Pennsylvania 400 Betting Picks

NASCAR Sprint Cup action moves to the Pocono Raceway this weekend for the Pennsylvania 400. It’s the 2nd time NASCAR’s visited the Keystone State this season, so drivers will have a much better feel for how the recently repaved track handles.

Thanks to mechanical failures and accidents, NASCAR odds can shift dramatically in the days immediately ahead of race day. NASCAR bettors who aren’t close to home when the green flag flies can track racing odds on free iPhone sports betting apps that are available at almost any reputable online sportsbook.

Jimmie Johnson Best Bet to Win 2012 Pennsylvaia 400

Jimmie Johnson (+700) is fresh off a record fourth victory in the Brickyard 400 and is favored to do the same at Pocono. Johnson is definitely comfortable on this track having swept the Pocono 400 and Pennsylvania 400 back in 2004. (He’s one of just six drivers to pull the Pennsylvania sweep.)

While that new pavement may impact other drivers’ performances, we don’t think JJ will notice it much. Johnson has already said he thinks the new track surface has a lot of the characteristics he liked about the old one anyways.

Johnson is the king of NASCAR these days and he’s our pick to come in first under the checkered flag.

Will Brad Keselowski Win Back-to-Back Titles in the Pennsylvania 400?

Last year Brad Keselowski (+1500) surprised the NASCAR world by not only winning the Pennsylvania 400, but doing so while in severe pain from a broken ankle he sustained just a few days earlier. He recently told reporters that the new track makes passing on Turn 3 more difficult than it once was.

If that’s his way of saying, “Don’t expect too much from me this year,” NASCAR fans and bettors aren’t likely to listen. Keselowski has put up a number of wins since then, but is currently sitting in 9th place in the standings.

Other Factors to Watch for at the 2012 Pennsylvania 400

Drivers have long complained that the Pocono Raceway is just too slow and makes completing races a test of endurance on its own. Speeds are up after the repave though and we’ll see how well it holds up in its sophomore outing.

The weather forecast for the Poconos calls for cool temperatures and a 50% chance of thunderstorms, so keep an eye on changing conditions as race time approaches. 2012 Pennsylvania 400 Predictions

• Best Bet: Jimmie Johnson +700

Jimmie Johnson is our best bet to win the title at the Pennsylvania 400. Logano who won the Pocono 400 will look to make it two in a row at the Pocono Raceway and he’s worth taking a hard look at this weekend.
