NASCAR 2012 Brickyard 400 Preview & Picks

The popular NASCAR Brickyard 400 is this Sunday, July 29th at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. For 2012, the race has been renamed the Crown Royal presents the Curtiss Shaver 400 at the Brickyard – a mouthful. This is the result of new sponsor (Crown Royal) taking over after All-State didn’t sign a new sponsorship deal. Let’s look at the latest odds.

Most bookmakers have yet to post their betting odds for the Curtiss Shaver Crown-State 400 Royal Brickyard of the Indianapolis Raceway 2012 (or whatever the F&%k they’re calling it). The odds above are from Paddies who’s released odds on a number of markets already. BetOnline Mobile offers NASCAR betting odds as well, but they’re going to post their lines for the 2012 Brickyard 400 later in the week.

Analyzing the 2012 Brickyard 400 Betting Markets

The Brickyard 400 debuted in 1994 and Jeff Gordon emerged victorious in that race. Since that inaugural race, the Brickyard 400 has always been a fan favorite to watch and wager on.

Jeff Gordon (+1200) has had the most success in the Brickyard 400, having won it four times already. Gordon still hasn’t won a race in 2012, but the Brickyard will give him a chance to get out of the rut.

Paul Menard (+6600) won the race in 2011, but don’t expect him to contend again in 2012. Menard beat out 2nd place Jeff Gordon last year, but Menard is struggling right now. Menard is 15th in the Sprint Cup Series Race to the Chase and is sitting 10 points ahead of Gordon.

Denny Hamlin (+1000) should be in contention this weekend. Hamlin finished 4th at Daytona this year after starting 31st, and took a 2nd-place a couple of weeks ago. Hamlin is 5th in points (628) at the moment and he’ll be looking for a T5 finish to ensure he doesn’t drop down.

The Brickyard 400 has had 11 different winners in its history and the pole sitter has only won the race twice (Harvick 2003 & Johnson 2008). Kenseth took Daytona this year and will look to become the 4th driver in history to win the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 races in the same year.

My Predictions for the 2012 Brickyard 400

• Jeff Gordon +1200 for 1pt

• Tony Stewart +650 for 1pt

Jeff Gordon has had the most success at the Brickyard 400 in history and Stewart is tough to beat at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, so I’m picking these two drivers to win. It should be noted that Hendrick Motorsports has won this race 7 times. The winner of the Brickyard 400 has come from T5 starting positions 50% of the time (9/18). It’ll be harder to get T5 value post-qualifying, so one of the tricks for this race is to find pre-qualifying value. +1200 for Gordon is our best bet for Sunday.
