Jets vs. Steelers Betting Lines

What: New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: Week 2 NFL Football
When: 4:25 pm EST. Sunday, September 16, 2012
Where: Heinz Field

The New York Jets 1-0 (0-1 ATS) proved last week why the preseason generally means absolutely nothing. The Jets beat the Bills 48-28, getting a nice performance out of QB Mark Sanchez (19-27, 266 yards, 3 TD’s, 1 INT). Pittsburgh 0-1 (0-1 ATS) didn’t fare as well in week 1, losing 31-19 to the Broncos. The Steelers will be in another tough battle this week, facing a very good Jets defense.

New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Lines

Pittsburgh opened this week as a -6 point favorite, but the point spread is now down just a shade to Steelers -5 (-115) at BetOnline, and -6 (-105) at Bovada. Most of the action has been on the underdog and that’s never a good thing if you like the Jets. The Jets vs. Steelers over/under opened at 41.5, and is hasn’t changed at BetOnline. It’s currently 42 at Bovada.

New York Jets

There were plenty of worries in New York about the Jets offense after the preseason, but those are now over (maybe). The Jets opened the season with a 48-28 win over the Bills with half of the Bills points coming in garbage time after the game was already over.

Mark Sanchez had a solid game, as he went 19/27 for 266 yards, 3 TD’s and 1 INT. Shonn Greene looked good as the feature back and ended the game with 27 carries, 94 rushing yards and 1 TD. Tebow had a quiet week 1.

Most people want to know whether Tebow will be featured more, but I doubt he will unless the offense needs a shake-up. This week the Jets will rely on Shonn Greene to move the football and open up passing lanes for his QB Mark Sanchez.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Peyton Manning didn’t face too much resistance in his 1st game back from injury against the Steelers in week 1. Pittsburgh gave up 240 passing yards to the Broncos and 94 rushing yards. Denver won 31-19 after outscoring the Steelers 17-6 in the 4th quarter.

The Steelers offense was out of sync in week 1 as well and that’s because of the running game. Mendenhall is still listed as doubtful and I expect Dwyer to get most of the carries this week (after a better performance than Redman in week 1).

For week 2, the Steelers will be focused on stopping Sanchez. Stephen Hill is probable for the Jets, but should play. Pittsburgh is going to need to shut down the Jets passing game in order to win this game. Harrison should play so that’s good news, but we still don’t know whether or not Polamalu will start.

Jets/Steelers Point Spread

After week 1 results, most of the public has jumped on the Jets bandwagon. That usually isn’t a good thing and we’re backing Pittsburgh on the point spread to cover -5 points at home as long as Polamalu and Harrison are playing. If not we’ll see where the spread moves before making an official recommendation.

Right now, we can get the Jets +5 (-105) at BetOnline or +6 (-115) at Bovada. It comes down to whether or not you want an extra point for $.10. We’d take the extra point and pay it.

For the Steelers, we can get -5 (-115) at BetOnline, or -6 (-105) at Bovada. Same deal here, 1 point for $.10.

NY vs. Pittsburgh Money Line

We like the Steelers in week 2, but the best Steelers money line is -240. For the NY Jets, the best money line is +215 at BetOnline. There is a lot of action coming in on the Jets money line right now and I think this team is a bit overvalued after their week 1 blowout. This game is in Pittsburgh, and the Steelers will be looking for some week 2 revenge. I See them winning this SU, but I’m not crazy about -240.

Our recommendation is to stay away from the Jets vs Steelers money line unless it moves more in your favor.

NY Jets vs. Steelers Over/Under

The NY vs. Pittsburgh over/under hasn’t moved from 41.5 points at BetOnline this week, and we bet the over here. Pittsburgh’s defense gave up plenty of points to the Broncos, and they may be without Polamalu this week. The Jets put up big numbers last week and should be able to score in the 20’s this week along with the Steelers.

The Jets vs Steelers over/under is one of my favorite bets of week 2, taking the over of 41.5 at BetOnline.com.
