Miami Heat vs. Indiana Pacers – Eastern Conference Finals Game Six

When: 8:30pm ET. Saturday, June 1st 2013
Where: Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis

The Miami Heat 11-3 (8-6 ATS) head back on the road with a 3-2 series lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. Miami took the lead in the series with a 90-79 victory against the Indiana Pacers 10-7 (11-6 ATS) who will now need to regroup and come out much hungrier at home this Saturday.

Indiana went into the break after the 1H with a 44-40 lead in game 5 against the Heat. They squandered opportunities to build a bigger lead and it cost them because the Heat came storming back in the 2H. Miami outscored Indiana 50-35 in the 2H and they looked like they had more left in the tank than Indiana.

Can Lebron James & the Heat Finish the Pacers Off On the Road?

This series is starting to look a lot like the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals last year between these two teams. The Heat beat the Pacers in 6 games last year after splitting the first four games and if the Pacers don’t regroup quickly that will happen again.

After losing game 5 of a best-of-7 series in the NBA playoffs the team goes on to lose the series 83% of the time. That isn’t a good stat for the Pacers and it will be tough to overcome, but not impossible, as Miami proved last year against the Boston Celtics.

Lebron James is an absolute beast on the court regardless of what you may think about him. In game 5 he took over the game in the 3rd quarter and outscored the Pacers on his own (16-13). James has averaged 28.4 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 5.4 APG during the series.

We know James will have solid production, but the big piece of the puzzle is Dwayne Wade. Wade has shot 58.6% and averaged 18.5 PPG when Miami wins in this series while in losses he shoots 37.9% from the field and averages 15.0 PPG.

I also want to mention Chris Andersen who has been awesome. Will Andersen ever miss a shot? He still hasn’t missed a shot during the series. Andersen is averaging 7.2 points and 4.6 rebounds in 18.4 minutes of work per game. (Update: Andersen Suspended for G6).

Will Paul George & the Pacers Force a Game 7 in Miami?

Paul George went 11-19 from the field (5-8 3PM) for 27 rebounds and he also chipped in 11 rebounds in game 5. The two big men on the Pacers (Roy Hibbert & David West) combined for 39 points and 14 rebounds, but the rest of the team was nonexistent.

Roy Hibbert has been the biggest problem for the Heat to contain. This series Hibbert has averaged 22.6 PPG, 10.8 RPG (5.5 OREB) and 1.2 BPG. His presence in the paint has been felt and Hibbert has been shooting lights out (54.7%).

George has averaged 20.2 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 5.4 APG and 1 BPG in the series while shooting 47.9 from the field and 44% from beyond the arc. West is shooting 47.8% from the field in the series as well while averaging 18.2 PPG and 8.4 RPG.

The problem has been the inconsistency of George Hill and Lance Stephenson. When both players perform well the Pacers win, but when they don’t perform the Pacers struggle. In game 5 these two combined for just 5 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists.

Key Battles in the Heat vs. Pacers Game Six

The battle in the paint has been huge this series. The team that wins the battle in the paint has won each game except for in G2 when both teams tied with 40 points in the paint each. Points in the paint will most likely decide who wins game six.

Miami needs to limit the offensive rebounds to Hibbert and West to win the paint battle. In order for the Pacers to win the paint battle they need to limit the slashing of James and Wade. When Wade is scoring in the paint Miami always does well.

We knew coming into this series that the Pacers had turnover problems, but they need to work on fixing that. Some of the TO’s are sloppy throughout the game and they need to either focus more on protecting the basketball or whatever else it takes.

The Heat has won the turnover battle this series (3-1-1) and the Pacers can’t lose this battle in game 6. The only game that the Pacers turned the ball over less than Miami was G2 when they won 97-93. Turning the ball over less than 10X is imperative.

Miami Heat vs. Indiana Pacers Game 6 Picks

My prediction for game 6 between the Heat and Pacers is the Pacers +3 on the point spread. I considered betting the money line because I expect the Pacers to win at home and force a game 7, but I feel better about getting +3 points on the spread.

Hill and Stephenson both need to be productive, but the big three of George, Hibbert and West need to keep playing like they have been the entire series. This is going to be a close game, but this series to me has a game 7 written all over it.
