Heat vs. Knicks Over/Under – 11/2

Miami Heat (1-0) vs. New York Knicks (0-0)
When: 8:05pm EST. Friday, November 2, 2012
Where: Madison Square Garden, New York City

The Knicks were supposed to begin on Thursday against the Nets, but the game was postponed due to the after effects of Hurricane Sandy. At the time I write this article, the Knicks home opener against the Miami Heat is still scheduled to be played Friday night at Madison Square Garden.

Miami Heat vs. NY Knicks Over/Under Odds – 11/2

The Heat vs. Knicks over/under opened at O/U 192 points. After the way the Heat came out in their opening game, it’s no surprise the over/under has already moved to 197.5 (-110) at BetOnline. Bovada has posted their point spread on this game, but not their over/under odds. Once they add it, I’ll try to update the odds table below.

Will the Heat Have An Offensive Outburst Against the Knicks?

On Wednesday, the Miami Heat 1-0 (1-0 ATS) opened their season at home against the Celtics and won 120-107. Miami had a bit of extra motivation against their rival Celtics on opening night, and that’s why I don’t want to touch the spread in this game.

With the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy still affecting NYC, I’m sure the Knicks will be motivated on the court Friday night. I expect the Knicks to come out strong in their home opener, trying to provide something positive for their fans.

The Miami Heat had production from everyone in their 1st game against Boston. Dwayne Wade led the team with 29 points, James had 26 pts, and Ray Allen added 19 pts off the bench. Rashard Lewis pitched in with 10 pts off the bench as well. Even though it’s a home game for the Knicks, stopping the Heat should be very tough.

Amar’e Stoudemire is injured to begin the season, and not having him in the game will hurt the Knicks. Stoudemire only played a total of 47 games last year, but in those games he averaged 17.5 PPG and 7.8 RPG. That production will be missed.

The Knicks lost Jeremy Lin to the Rockets this year as well, but I think Raymond Felton will get the job done. Plus, they also have veteran Jason Kidd to back him up. Carmelo Anthony will have to lead the team, but he’ll have some help.

Ronnie Brewer, Tyson Chandler, Steve Novak, J.R. Smith and Marcus Camby will all be providing production for the Knicks, and they should have no problem averaging at least 97.8 PPG, which is what they averaged during the shortened 2011-12 season.

Heat vs. Knicks O/U Prediction for Friday, Nov. 2, 2012

Bet Under 197.5 (-110) @ BetOnline

The Heat should average nearly 100 PPG this season, and the Knicks love to shoot the 3-ball. The Knicks scored an average of 7.8 3-pointers per game last season, which was 4th best in the NBA. I liked the over when it was at 192, but at 197.5 I think the value is gone. At this point, I’m not crazy about either side, but I’m leaning towards the under right now. However, I’ll wait until Friday afternoon before placing a bet, hoping the Heat vs. Knicks over/under goes another point or two higher. I recommend you do the same.
