Giants vs. Ravens Over Under

When: 4:25pm EST. Sunday, December 23, 2012
Where: M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, MD

In all likelihood the Baltimore Ravens won’t be improving on their #4 seed in the AFC, but they could move down. The only way to prevent that is to win on Sunday, and this game against the Giants will be a big test for them. Normally home games are a huge advantage for the Ravens, but they’ve now lost their L2 at home, and L3 overall.

The Giants come into Baltimore tied with Washington and Dallas at 8-6, but below both of them due to their 2-3 division record. The Redskins currently own the #4 spot in the NFC, and have a 3-1 record against the East. The ‘Boys are in the eighth spot, and have a 3-2 division record. The Giants sit directly below them in the #9 spot, and they have some work to do if they want to make the playoffs. It all starts with this road game against the Ravens.

I won’t be betting the spread or money line in this game.

Giants vs. Ravens Betting Analysis & Predictions

On the surface it might look strange that a 9-5 home team is a dog against an 8-6 road team. While the Ravens have been hurt and playing poorly, the Giants have been the Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde of the NFL. In their last five games, the Giants were beat by Cincinnati by 18, then they beat the Packers by 28, then lost to the Redskins by 1. In the following week against the Saints, the Giants routed them by a score of 52-27. And finally last week, the Giants got slaughtered 34-0 by the Falcons.

For this game, I’m going to make all the sense I can out of it, then bet the opposite.

Actually, this unpredictability is exactly why I’ll be staying away from the point spread & money line on this game. This game is a coin flip, and any one of numerous small events could change the results of this game. One fumble, one INT, one missed 1st down, one missed field goal, one disgruntled cheerleader – you name it. It’s hard to find value in a game like this, and we’re basically betting on a gut feeling. Personally, I like to feel some level of predictability – some edge worth going after.

NY Giants vs. Ravens Over/Under Odds & Pick

The bet I like in this game is the over/under. Although the Ravens defense is still hurting, their offense has also been weak of late. In their last five games, the Ravens have scored 13, 16, 20, 28, and 17 respectively. While they’ve allowed 31 and 34 points the last two weeks, those games were against the Redskins and Broncos, who rank 2nd & 5th in points per game. The Giants rank 6th in that category, but after last weeks performance, who knows which team is going to show up?

The Giants defense has given up a lot of points the last two weeks as well, but those games were against the Saints and Falcons. The Saints rank 4th in scoring, and the Falcons rank 7th.

The last two games for each team might be keeping the over/under a bit too high – I think it is. Although the Giants could blast off for 30+ points, I don’t think they will. Even if they do put up 30, there’s no guarantee the Ravens can muster up the 18+ they would need to beat the over.

Admittedly this is a game that is hard to predict. However, I think it’s more likely we’ll see this game go under the total. I also think sharps will agree with me, so I expect the Giants vs. Ravens over/under to come down a point or so before game time. If you like the under as well, I recommend betting it now while you can get u47.5.

I’m taking the under of 47.5 (-110) at BetOnline.com.
