Giants vs. Panthers Betting Lines

What: New York Giants vs. Carolina Panthers: Week 3 Thursday Night Football
When: 8:20 pm EST. Thursday, September 20, 2012
Where: Bank of America Stadium

The New York Giants (1-1, 0-2 ATS) travel to Charlotte for the week 3 Thursday Night Football game against the Carolina Panthers (1-1, 1-1 ATS). Both of these teams pulled out victories in week 2 after starting 0-1 on the season, but the Panthers looked much better in week 2.

NY Giants vs. Panthers TNF Betting Lines: Point Spread, Money Line & Over/Under

The Giants vs. Panthers point spread opened at Giants -3 (-115). Sharps were quick to grab the +3 on the Panthers, but the spread has changed considerably then.

The over/under for this week 3 Thursday night match-up opened at 51.5 and we’ve seen some movement here as well. At the time this article is being written, we can get o49 (-110) at BetOnline, or u50 (-110) at Bovada. If you like the over, gain a point and pay the nickel. I expect the game total in the Giants vs. Panthers to come up a bit before game time, so bet on the over now if that’s your pick.

New York Giants

Last week the NY Giants were lucky to escape with a win against the Buccaneers. Ahmad Bradshaw went down with an injury in the 2nd quarter and looks like he could miss Thursday’s game. Andre Brown is expected to take most of the snaps at RB.

Tampa Bay had a 24-13 lead at halftime, but the Giants won 41-34 thanks to a 25-point outbreak in the final quarter. Eli Manning was forced to air the football out in the 2nd half and he put up huge numbers (31/51 for 510 passing yards, 3 TD’s, 3 INT’s).

The Giants defense has been shaky up to this point, but it hasn’t been totally their fault. Last week the Giants turned the football over too much and forced the defense to work with short fields. This week it’ll be imperative to limit the Panthers rushing attack.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers knocked the Saints off last week in a thriller (35-27), but the game wasn’t as close as it seemed. Carolina had the perfect game plan against the Saints, which was to run the football and limit the chances that Drew Brees had to put up points.

In week 1 the Panthers couldn’t find any yards in the run game, but in week 2 they rushed for over 200 yards. Cam Newton had 13 carries for 71 yards (1 TD), Williams had 14 carries for 69 yards (1 TD), and Stewart had 11 carries for 51 yards. It will be important for Carolina to establish the run game, especially since Steve Smith isn’t 100% with a banged up knee.

Tolbert pitched in with a goal line TD as well. Newton also threw the football much better this week. He went 14/20 for 253 yards and 1 TD, and no interceptions. Steve Smith had 3 catches for 104 yards, and Lafell stepped up with 6 catches for 90 yards.

Giants/Panthers Point Spread

The Carolina Panthers are confident after beating the Saints last week. I expect the Panthers to win, but it comes down to paying for a point, or three (depending on where you’re betting). I like the Panthers SU in this game, and it should be close. I don’t like giving up three points in this game, so I’m taking the Panthers -1 (-130) at BetOnline.

NY Giants vs. Carolina Panthers Money Line

The Panthers vs. Giants moneyline has moved quite a bit since it opened. The Panthers opened at +100, but it’s -140 right now. This really comes down to giving up points or paying a higher price. Personally, I didn’t like giving up three to the Giants, but I’m okay with one. So, I won’t be betting the money line in this game, but I wouldn’t blame anybody for going this route instead.

Panthers vs. Giants Over/Under

The Giants vs. Panthers over/under is 49 at BetOnline and 50 at Bovada. NYG should have to air it out more with Bradshaw out of the line-up, and the Panthers will need to put up points at home if they expect to win this game. The total is a bit high, but three points lower from where it opened. With teams passing more in recent years, we’ve seen a lot of 50+ point totals and I think this will be another one.

I’m taking o49 (-110) at BetOnline.
