These eight teams are still fighting to make it into the final bracket in the first round play-in games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

2015 March Madness bracket predictions

You’re not going to find me taking a shot on a team beating Kentucky with my main bracket. I have Kentucky being crowned as the National Champions in 2015. Anything can happen, as UConn showed us in 2014, but the Wildcats are way better than the field.

I have two #1 seeds (Kentucky and Duke) and two #2 seeds (Virginia and Arizona) in my Final Four.

Here is a snapshot of my filled-in bracket – I know the font is small, but it’s the only way I could make it fit, while printing the screen.

2015 March Madness Bracket Predictions

Midwest region bracket breakdown

#1 Kentucky are in a tough region, as the selection committee didn’t spare them any breaks. #4 Maryland are a great team, plus you still have #3 Notre Dame, #2 Kansas, #7 Wichita State and #5 West Virginia. I expect the Shockers to advance to the Elite Eight.

Wichita State will likely have to upset the Jayhawks and Fighting Irish in order to make the Elite Eight. I also have #12 Buffalo winning a game over WVU in round 2. #6 Butler will beat #11 Texas, but I doubt they’ll keep up with Notre Dame in the next round.

As many of you know – the #9 seed actually beats the #8 seed more often than not during March Madness. In the Midwest region I have #9 Purdue beating #8 Cincinnati. Purdue is playing great basketball, but unfortunately Kentucky will crush them in round 3.

West region bracket breakdown

After winning the Big Ten Championship earlier today – Wisconsin were awarded with the #1 seed in the West region. This region is packed with top tier talent, including #2 Arizona, #3 Baylor, #4 North Carolina, #5 Arkansas, #6 Xavier, #7 VCU and #8 Oregon.

Arizona are my pick to advance to the Final Four out of the West region, as they’ll beat Wisconsin in the Elite Eight. Baylor and UNC are two great teams as well and if either team was in another bracket I’d likely have them advancing further in the tournament.

Strangely – the only underdog I picked in entire West region are Arizona to beat Wisconsin. Every other game I have the higher seed advancing, which is unlikely. However, the top eight teams in the region all have favorable match-ups in the second round.

East region bracket breakdown

#2 Virginia are my pick out of the East region, but #1 Villanova will be in the mix and could win the Elite Eight match-up too. I have a few upsets taking place in the East, including #6 Providence to beat #3 Oklahoma and #5 Northern Iowa to beat #4 Louisville.

I also have #9 LSU advancing to the 3rd round with a win over #8 N.C. State. LSU is a live sleeper in the East and I expect them to push Villanova to the limit. The Panthers should have been higher than a #5 seed as well and they’ll prove that against the Cardinals.

#7 Michigan State will have little problem beating #10 Georgia, although they come into the tournament on a down note, as they blew an 11-point lead in the Big Ten finals. I considered #14 Albany over Oklahoma and I still may change that pick this week.

South region bracket breakdown

#1 Duke have to be happy about how the South region shaped up. I’m taking a chance on #10 Davidson to upset #7 Iowa and #2 Gonzaga – before losing to #3 Iowa State. ISU will make it to the Elite Eight, but they’ll lose to the Blue Devils.

I’m surprised #11 UCLA made it into the tournament, but that just makes picking #6 SMU that much easier. #4 Georgetown and #5 Utah both scare me, but #12 Stephen F. Austin and #13 Eastern Washington aren’t likely to pose much of a threat.

I was going to take #9 St. John’s over #8 San Diego State, but Chris Obekpa has been suspended for two weeks. Duke has the easiest path to the Final Four and I have them making it all the way to the championship game against Kentucky this year.

2015 NCAA basketball tournament: Final Four and Championship predictions

Usually I’m all for taking lots of long shots in my brackets, but in 2015 that isn’t going to be the case. I expect the cream to rise to the top in this year’s NCAA basketball tournament. Kentucky haven’t lost yet this season and they’ll run the table in the tourney.
