Colts vs. Redskins Week 3 Preseason Betting

NFL bettors will get their longest look yet at Indianapolis’ first round pick Andrew Luck this weekend when the Indianapolis Colts (1-1, 2-0 ATS) face off against the Washington Redskins (1-1, 2-0 ATS) in NFL Preseason Week 3 action. It’s finally that time of the preseason when starters hang in deep into the game, so this will be closer to a real game than anything we’ve seen yet.

It’s also the first home game for Robert Griffin III and, if it’s anything like his 33-31 loss to the Bears last week, it has the potential to be a high scoring affair, too.

Bettors who stay on the go over the weekend can still place bets and follow the latest lines with an Android sports betting for their smart phone. Most big online sportsbooks offer these downloadable programs at no charge and many even offer live betting features for amping up the action wherever you are.

Luck’s Biggest Test Yet

Luck’s reputation as a field manager will definitely be tested when he takes the Colts offense out for their longest ride of the season so far. Indianapolis sports media is reporting that Luck will be playing deep into the third quarter. That’s part of the reason why the over/under is sitting at 43.5 and could go much higher as the week progresses.

Last week the Colts finally found their scoring legs when they dropped a down-to-the-wire, 26-24 thriller against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In that game he completed 16-25 for 175 yards and two interceptions. Though he did give up the two interceptions, he showed a lot of poise while bouncing back from the mishaps to run in a 1-yard TD.

It’s fair to say that facing off against RGIII and the Redskins is going to be very different from going head-to-head against Big Ben and the Steelers. Luck is a smart guy and is the type of quarterback who’s going to learn from preseason mistakes. We expect to see a much sharper performance from him tonight.

Luck’s clearly saving himself for the regular season, so we haven’t seen him really playing at full speed yet. There should be a little more of that on display tonight, as the regular season inches closer.

Redskins Power Offense

For their part, the Redskins should be able to get plenty of offense going tonight. They put up plenty of points on the Chicago Bears in their 33-31 loss last week. Griffin should see more playing time tonight and is certainly going to benefit from plenty of one-on-one time with Washington head coach Mike Shanahan.

When Griffin heads to the bench, he’ll likely be replaced by the very capable Kirk Cousins, a rookie out of Michigan State. Against Chicago, Cousins put up a very impressive 18-33 for 264 yards and three touchdowns.

Like so many other QBs who won’t see much action when the regular season starts, Cousins is putting on a show for potential future employers. He looked good against the battered Bears’ veteran defense, but probably won’t see as many trips to the end zone tonight.

Giving the Edge to Indy

Washington is likely to be very capable and disciplined this year, but they’re still building those qualities. As good as Griffin is, Luck has the edge in skill and poise. He should get into a groove and really start to strut his stuff against the Redskins.

We picked the Colts as a +3 underdog to win in a high scoring game that should give the over a run for its money. The over/under is inflated this week due to the number of overs in week 2. We’ll pass on the game total betting market and stick with just the point spread wager.

American NFL bettors have to be very careful when choosing a sportsbook because not everyone is willing to take their action. If you’re looking for a reliable betting site that’s willing to work American, we highly recommend Betonline Mobile.
