Colts vs. Patriots Betting Lines – AFC Championship

Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots Preview

When: Sunday, January 18th 2015 at 6:40pm ET
Where: Gillette Stadium at Foxborough
Watch: CBS

The Indianapolis Colts beat the Broncos (24-13), but Andrew Luck played poorly and will have to step it up. The New England Patriots beat the Ravens (35-31) in the most exciting game last weekend. This will be a great game and should be a high scoring affair.

This will be an exciting match-up between two strong teams. We have one QB (Luck) who is trying to solidify his legacy early into his career and we have another QB (Tom Brady) who has proven throughout his career that he has what it takes to win in the playoffs.

Colts vs. Patriots Point Spread & Over/Under Odds

Bet on the 2015 AFC Championship Game at the Bovada Sportsbook ($250 Cash Bonus).

I’m surprised to see the Patriots listed as such a big favorite, as the Colts have been great all season long. The total is high, but with good reason. Both of these teams are capable of scoring points in bunches and this game has a high potential of being a shootout.

IND @ NE Stats Pack

The Patriots and Colts are both great offensively, but the edge goes to the Colts strictly based on statistics. These two defenses have been around average most of the season, but the Patriots have definitely been better at keeping opponents out of the endzone.

Take the Points with the Colts in the AFC Championship Game

Last week Bill Belichick and the Patriots used a pass-heavy game plan to beat the Ravens because they’re beat up at RB. Brady was able to complete 33 of 50 pass attempts for 367 yards, 3 TD’s and 1 INT, but will he be able to come close to those numbers again?

The Colts rank 12th against the pass (229.3 PYPG) compared to 18th against the run (113.4 RYPG). The Colts limited Manning to just 211 passing yards and 1 TD, so I highly doubt that Brady will throw for 300+ yards again against an improving secondary.

On the season the Patriots average 257.6 PYPG (9th) and 107.9 RYPG (18th). Last week’s passing explosion was expected because the Ravens can be beat through the air. Belichick will likely try to work Brandon Bolden and Shane Vereen into the run game more.

Bolden could be interesting because he led the Pats in rushing attempts (3) last week out of the RB’s. Bolden is a big back and you never know when a relative unknown will step up on NE. For instance, Danny Amendola caught two TD passes against Baltimore.

This Patriots defense is a bit underrated in my opinion. They only allow 239.8 PYPG (17th) and 104.3 RYPG (9th). They didn’t play too good last week, as they allowed 292 passing yards and 4 passing TD’s plus 136 rushing yards, but look for them to play better.

I was disappointed with Luck as well. Luck threw for 265 passing yards and 2 TD’s, which is great, but he also tossed two INT’s in the game. Indy averages 305.9 PYPG (1st) and 100.8 RYPG (22nd), so I expect Luck to throw for closer to 300 passing yards on Sunday.

Dan Herron has continued his good play at RB for the Colts, but I’m not convinced he’ll have another big games. New England can stop the run effectively and I expect to see more of Luck. This is the moment for Luck to step up and win a huge playoff game.

Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots Picks

The Patriots knocked the Colts out of the playoffs last year with a 43-22 victory. They covered the –7.5 point spread, but this year I expect the more experienced Luck to have a much stronger game. He looked shaky last week, but I feel he’ll bounce back nicely.

Indy has lost five straight to the Patriots, so I don’t see them winning SU, but this will be a close game. Playing at Mile High in my opinion is tougher than at Gillette Stadium. We’ll see a confident Colts team that has nothing to lose at this point.
