College football bettors love revenge games and that’s exactly what they’ll get when the #10 Clemson Tigers (3-0, 1-2 ATS) visit Tallahassee to take on the #4 Florida State Seminoles (3-0, 2-0 ATS). When they arrive, they’ll find a Seminoles squad that’s dying for a chance to avenge their 35-30 loss against the Tigers last season.

Both teams are facing their first real challenge of the season, so handicapping this game can be difficult. Be sure and check out the end of this post for our free point spread, money line and over/under picks.

Online sportsbooks are giving the untested Seminoles the edge in this game, despite their lopsided victories over cupcake, non-conference opponents this season. As of Friday morning at 1:20 am EST, Florida State is favored by -14.5 points at BetOnline and Bovada. A huge game that will get a lot of attention, the betting lines should see some movement between now and game time.

Over/under bettors will be taking a close look at that generous 56 point line that may be a bit on the high side. And given Clemson’s success over FSU in the past, a money line upset is not unthinkable.

Clemson Tigers

Offensively, Clemson is stacked to the rafters with quality players and junior QB Tajh Boyd (63-86, 747 yds, 6 TDs, 1 INT, 4 sacks) leads the pack. He’s constantly improving and already completing a whopping 73% of his passes for around 300 yards a game.

Boyd’s got some great options on the ground and in the air with senior RB Andre Ellington (53 carries, 328 yards, 4 TDs), and in the air to DeAndre Hopkins (23 receptions, 319 yards, 4 TDs). Combined, the Clemson offense has been running up over 500 yards a game.

Clemson hasn’t been blowing out opponents the way the Seminoles have, but they’re averaging around 39 points a game and giving up an average of 17.

Florida State Seminoles (FSU)

The #4 Florida State Seminoles are on an absolute tear this season, outscoring opponents by a ratio of 58:1. No one has scored a touchdown on them this season and they haven’t given up a single point since the second quarter of game one. While those numbers are impressive, they also speak to strength of schedule, or lack thereof.

Putting anything the Seminoles have done this season in the context of a matchup against Clemson is difficult because the Tigers are by far the best team they’ve seen.

The last time these two teams met up Florida State played a pretty sloppy game and paid for it with a 35-30 loss. In that game they were especially hamstrung by 124 yards in penalties, an interception, and a dismal 30% success rate on third down conversions.

They’ll definitely be motivated this week, but a 52-point shut out against Wake Forest isn’t great preparation for an afternoon with Tajh Boyd.

Clemson @ Florida St. Betting Predictions

Florida State has a national following and that impacts betting odds whenever they play. That said, they’ve won seven of their last eight meetings against the Tigers in Tallahassee. College football bettors who love a challenge are all over this game.

Clemson vs. FSU Point Spread

Clemson has befuddled oddsmakers this season and we see that trend continuing today. -14.5 seems a like a lot for the untested Seminoles to be giving the Tigers. Boyd and company are more than capable of keeping this close, so we’re taking the points, going with Clemson +14.5 (-110) at BetOnline.com.

Clemson vs. Florida St. Money Line

On paper, these two teams match up very well. I think the Seminoles might be a bit surprised by Clemson and this one has serious potential for an upset. You probably don’t want to go too heavy, but a small play on Clemson SU could return nicely.

The Clemson money line is +450 at BetOnline. This is one of those games where it’s worth the risk on a small wager, looking at a nice win if it comes through.

The Florida State money line is -565. I hate this bet and do not recommend it. The game has the potential to be close, and a couple of mistakes here or there could give Clemson the win. Based on that, I don’t see any value at -565. I don’t often dislike a bet as much as I do this one. Stay away from the FSU money line this week.

FSU vs. Clemson Over/Under

Both these teams have shown they can put up huge numbers, but we haven’t seen them against quality defenses. The Clemson vs. FSU over/under is currently 56 points at BetOnline, but I’ll be staying away from it. There are better bets to go after this week, we don’t need to risk it on a gamble like this.
