Cardinals vs. Falcons Over/Under

Arizona Cardinals vs. Atlanta Falcons
When: 1:00pm EST. Sunday, November 18, 2012
Where: Georgia Dome. Atlanta, Georgia

This week in one of the 1pm matchups, the Atlanta Falcons host the Arizona Cardinals. The Atlanta Falcons have an seasonal O/U record of 4-5, but their home O/U record is just 1-3. The Arizona Cardinals have an O/U record of 2-7 including 1-3 on the road.

The Atlanta Falcons come into this game with an 8-1 record and the lead in the AFC South. The Arizona Cardinals are 4-5, and they still have an outside shot at making the playoffs. But this is basically a must-win game for Arizona since we’re already in week 11. I won’t be betting the spread in this game, but I do like the Cardinals vs. Falcons over/under bet.

We’ve lost some value on the under this week, as the total has gone from an open of 46 points down to 44 points. This total is likely to drop a bit more before game time in my opinion, so I’d back the under 44 points while you still can at BetOnline.com.

Will the Cardinals vs. Falcons Go Over or Under the Total?

Like many expected, the Cardinals have been struggling due to an inept offense that can’t move the football. The Cardinals rank 32nd rushing the football (76.2 RYPG), 20th in passing yards (219.2 PYPG) and 31st in points scored (16 PPG). Obviously this is good for the under.

The Falcons don’t do much on defense exceptionally well except for keeping the opposition out of the endzone. Atlanta has allowed an average of 19.3 PPG (6th) scored against them despite ranking #19 vs. the pass (235.8 PYPG) and #25 vs. the run (129.8 RYPG).

Atlanta allowed 31 points against the Saints last week, which was the most they’ve given up all season. I expect the defense to bounce back against a weak Skelton-led Arizona Cardinals offense.

When betting on the under in a Falcons game, the biggest concern is their offense. Atlanta has one of the best offenses due to their lethal passing game. Atlanta ranks 4th in passing yards (292.6 PYPG) and 7th in points scored (27.4 PPG), but they can’t run the ball. They rank #26 in the NFL, with an average of just 92.7 rushing yards/game.

The Cardinals defense struggles against the run (126.1 RYPG – 24th), but they’ve been solid against the pass (194.6 PYPG – 2nd). Kerry Rhodes is questionable this week, but if he plays the Cardinals have the tools to shut down Ryan and his WR’s.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Atlanta Falcons Over/Under Pick

Bet Under 44 (-110) at BetOnline.com

With the latest Cardinals vs. Falcons over/under at 44 points, I still like the under. Skelton hasn’t proved that he can command an offense in the NFL yet, and the Cardinals excellent pass defense should keep the Falcons from running up the scoreboard this Sunday.

Arizona just had their bye week, and they’ve had time to prepare for Matt Ryan, Roddy White and Julio Jones. If Arizona can game plan to slow down the passing offense of the Falcons, this game could be a slow grind with lots of punting between the 20’s.
