Buccaneers vs. Vikings Over/Under

Buc’s vs. Vikings Over/Under: 41.5 (-110) at BetOnline.com

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel on the road for just the third time this season in week 8. The Minnesota Vikings will be hosting the Bucs on Thursday night football and the game is important for both teams in the NFC, as most teams are close together.

So far this season the 5-2 Vikings are keeping up with the Bears in the NFC North due to defense. The Vikings have an O/U record of 2-5 on the season compared to the Buccaneers who have an O/U record of 4-2 after the first seven weeks of the season.

2012 Week 8 TNF Odds: Buccaneers vs. Vikings Game Total

This week the game total opened at 41 points in the Bucs vs. Vikes match-up. The over/under is now up to 41.5 points at BOL and the total is currently off the board at Bovada until closer to game time. I’d grab the under now, as I can’t see it going higher.

Why I Bet on the Under in the Tampa Bay vs. Minnesota Match-Up

The Minnesota Vikings rely heavily on their run game and defense to win football games. In my opinion Christian Ponder isn’t the answer at QB in Minnesota and that has been evident all season. The Vikes rank 27th in the NFL in passing yards (203.4 PYPG).

Adrian Peterson has been great this season. The Vikings have the 7th best run game, as they average 132.3 RYPG. So far this year he has rushed the football 136 times for 652 rushing yards (4.8 Yards per Attempt). Peterson only had 3 rushing TD’s though.

It gets a lot harder to run the football in the redzone when the opposition can stack the box and that’s part of the reason why the Vikings only score 23.9 PPG (14th) on average. I don’t expect the Vikings to be able to break 20 points against TB this week.

When you look at the Bucs offense you never know what you’re going to get. Vincent Jackson has been great lately along with Freeman, but if Freeman has a bad game the entire offense struggles. On the road this year the Bucs are 0-2.

TB lost to the Giants in week 2 (41-34) and then in week 3 the Bucs lost to the Cowboys (16-10). I expect this game to play out more like the Cowboys game did in week 3. The Bucs offense has been hot the L2 weeks, but the Vikes defense is tough.

Defensively both teams are pretty good, but the Bucs have had some weaknesses. They can’t stop the pass, but thankfully that shouldn’t be a huge problem against Ponder and the Vikes WR’s. Peterson should have trouble finding holes as well this week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings Picks

Bet on the Under 41.5 (-110) @ BetOnline

The under is my prediction in the Buccaneers vs. Vikings TNF match-up in week 8. At home the Vikings totals have been 49, 37, 37 and 35. The 1st week the defense struggled, but they’ve been playing great since and this should be a low scoring game.

My score prediction in the game is in the range of 16-13 to 19-16. Expect little offense with a focus on rushing the football. We’ll see some sustained drives, but both teams will end up kicking FG’s more than they score TD’s and this should stay under 41.5 pts.
