TB at NO NFL Week 1 PreviewThe New Orleans Saints host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to open up the 2020-21 NFL season.

We’re going to get to see what this Buccaneers offense is made of quickly. There’s generally a lot of offense when these two NFC South rivals play each other and this game should be no different.

The Buccaneers had a busy off-season retooling their offense.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Team Preview 2020

After throwing nine more interceptions (30 INTs) than any other QB in 2019, Jameis Winston is out and Tom Brady is in at QB for the Buccaneers. Brady also brought along TE Rob Gronkowski.

This was already a lethal offense before adding these two veterans.

Winston led the NFL in passing yards (5109) and ranked #3 in passing TDs (33). WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are both studs and now they’ll have Brady throwing them the football.

The Bucs aren’t stopping either, after the Jaguars released Leonard Fournette, the Bucs signed him and he’ll be given a chance to compete with Ronald Jones II for carries this season.

Tampa Bay will need to score a lot, though, as the defense is still going to be bad.

They failed to upgrade at cornerback, which is where they struggled in 2019. TB ranked #1 in rushing yards allowed (73.8 RYPG), but they ranked #30 in passing yards allowed (270.1 PYPG).

Shaquil Barrett led the NFL with 19.5 sacks in 2019 and he had the franchise tag put on him.

New Orleans Saints Team Preview 2020

The Saints averaged 28.1 PPG (5th) in 2019, just lower than the Bucs (28.6 PPG – 4th).

New Orleans didn’t make a lot of moves other than resigning some core pieces like QB Drew Brees, but one move they made was bringing in Emmanuel Sanders to be the #2 WR.

With Brees, WR Michael Thomas and RB Alvin Kamara – this offense will be among the best again.

They also have strong role players like RB Latavius Murray and TE Jared Cook.

With one of the best offensive lines, Brees will have time to scan the field and hit open targets.

The defense was average last season. The Saints allowed 240.8 PYPG (19th) and 21.6 PPG (13th). They have some playmakers like Cameron Jordan (15.5 sacks in 2019), but they’re still missing pieces.

TB vs. NO H2H Trends (Head-to-Head Results)

Since they play in the same division, these teams play each other twice every regular season.

In the last three seasons, the Saints are 4-2 against the Buccaneers and have won the last three H2H match-ups, however, the Buccaneers are going to be a lot different of a team in 2020.

With a major change at QB, I wouldn’t weigh recent head-to-head results too highly.

Buccaneers at Saints Money Line Prediction – 2020 NFL Week 1

NO went 13-3 and won the NFC South in 2019. Going 5-1 in division play helped a lot. If the Bucs want to dethrone the Saints it all starts in week 1 and this moneyline is too tempting to pass up.

Once more of the public starts betting next week, I expect the Buccaneers ML odds to drop.

The main reason I’m predicting this NFL week 1 upset is because the Saints are notoriously known for being slow starters. They’re just 1-5 in week 1 games the last six years.

They defeated the Texans 30-28 last season on a last second FG, but they had lost the previous five week 1 games. For some reason, the Saints come out sluggish in the opening week.

Another reason I’m betting on the Patriots is because there will be no fans allowed. The Saints are only allowed to start having fans attend games in their second home game (week 3).

If Brady was a young QB coming to a new team, I’d be more worried, but Brady is a veteran that’ll demand the best out of his teammates and I expect them all to be ready to win week 1.

The Bucs have to know that Brady’s time with the team is likely going to be limited and they need to be in a win now mode. They have the offensive talent to push any team to the limits.
