The Washington Redskins 3-4 (4-3 ATS) and Pittsburgh Steelers 3-3 (2-4 ATS) don’t play each other very often. In fact, these two teams haven’t played each other since 2008, but with both teams needing a win we should be in for a great game.

Pittsburgh is 2nd in the AFC North right now and trailing the 5-2 Ravens while the Redskins are last in the tight NFC East. Both of these teams played last week with the Steelers winning 24-17 against the Bengals and the Redskins losing 27-23 to the Giants.

Point Spread for Redskins vs. Steelers

The point spread opened at -4 points in favor of the Steelers at home and it’s now up to -5 points at Bovada and BetOnline. If you like the underdog Redskins like me, you should bet the +5 (-110) at BetOnline, as the odds are slightly better than the -115 at Bovada.

Can the Redskins Cover Against the Spread?

There is no doubt that the Redskins are a much better team with RGIII and I hope he can remain injury-free. He hasn’t made the team into much of a passing threat yet, but that will come. What he has done is turned the Redskins into the #1 rushing team.

With Mike Shanahan you never know what you’re getting with the run game. This season two rookies, RGIII and Alfred Morris have both been great. RG3 has rushed for 468 yards and 6 TD’s while Morris has rushed for 658 yards and 5 TD’s.

Washington has averaged 28.7 PPG (5th) and 406.3 YPG (5th) this season. On the road the Redskins have been pretty good this year as well. They beat the Saints 40-32, lost to the Rams 31-28, beat the Buccaneers 24-22 and lost to the Giants 27-23.

The Redskins either won or were close in all of their road games and the Saints plus Giants were tough road match-ups. When you look at the Steelers they’ve only won by over a TD once, which was back in week 2 against the Jets at home (27-10).

They beat the Bengals by a TD (24-17) last week, but that was because the Bengals were horrible offensively. Pittsburgh is also struggling offensively this year and that’s evident by the fact that the Steelers have only scored an average of 23.3 PPG (17th).

Washington ranks 7th stopping the run (85.3 RYPG) and should have no problem stopping the Steelers run game. Without the run game the Steelers have been struggling and Big Ben hasn’t been able to get it done by himself despite playing good.

Washington Redskins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Picks

Bet on the Redskins +5 (-110) @ BetOnline

Most of the point spread action online has been coming in on the Redskins, but sharp money has brought the spread up. It’ll be interesting to see where this spread goes this week, but I’d lock in the +5 points on the Redskins while you still can at BOL.
