Bears vs. Packers Betting Lines

What: Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers: Thursday Night Football
When: 8:20 pm EST. Thursday, September 13, 2012
Where: Lambeau Field

For week 2 of the 2012-13 NFL season, the Chicago Bears 1-0 (1-0 ATS) travel to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers 0-1 (0-1 ATS). This is a huge rivalry and Bears QB Jay Cutler has already been in the press talking smack to the Packers secondary. This is the first Thursday Night Football game of the year, and the forecast is saying there may be rain.

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Betting Lines

GB opened as a -6.5 point favorite, but the point spread is now -6 at most betting sites. Early action is coming in on CHI, but on Thursday I expect the public to bet on the home favorite which means Bears backers should get a better line if they wait.

For the Bears vs. Packers over/under, almost all of the early money has been wagered on the over. The over/under opened at 48.5 points, but has already been bet up to O/U 51.5 points and I expect more movement before kick-off.

Chicago Bears

Week 1 couldn’t have gone much better for the Bears, as they won at home against the Colts 41-21. The entire offense got in the mix on Sunday, but that was against the Colts defense. QB Jay Cutler completed 21/35 passes for 333 passing yards, 2 TD’s and 1 INT.

Brandon Marshall led the Bears WR’s with 9 catches, 119 receiving yards and 1 TD. Rookie Alshon Jeffery looked good as well, adding 3 catches for 80 yards and 1 TD. Matt Forte and Michael Bush combined for 28 carries, 122 rushing yards and 3 TD’s.

Chicago allowed Colts QB Andrew Luck to throw for 309 yards, but the defense had 3 INT’s and 2 sacks. Pressuring Aaron Rodgers and forcing him into bad throws will be key for the Bears defense in week 2. They also need to stop the deep ball and make GB work for their TD’s.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers lost 30-22 to the 49ers at Lambeau Field in week 1, but the game wasn’t as close as it appears on the scoreboard. The 49ers defense shut down the GB offense in week 1, making them look very un-Packer-like. Rodgers went 30/44 for 303 passing yards, 2 TD’s and 1 INT.

Against the 49ers, Green Bay couldn’t put together a rushing attack as newly signed Cedric Benson gained just 18 yards on 9 carries. WR Randall Cobb looked great in week 1, scoring on a 75-yard punt return and catching 9 passes (led team) for 77 receiving yards.

The 49ers were able to run the football all over the Packers defense in week 1. The 49ers gained 186 rushing yards at Lambeau Field with Gore/Hunter, and the Bears should be able to have similar success with Forte/Bush running the football.

Bears/Packers Point Spread

At the time this article is being written, the best Chicago Bears point spread is +6 (-105) at Bovada. The best Packers point spread is -6 (-110) at BetOnline.

Greg Jennings might be out for Green Bay on Thursday, but Charles Tillman of the Bears secondary might be out as well. Tillman is vital to the Bears pass coverage and Rodgers should be able to take advantage of this. I’d wait on further Tillman news, but I like the Bears +6 (-110).

Chicago vs. Green Bay Money Line

The latest Bears vs. Packers moneyline potentially has some value on the Bears. Chicago is paying +230 and the Packers are -275 currently at BetOnline. If Tillman starts, the Bears defense could keep it close, giving them a legitimate chance to beat the Packers.

With early speculation that Tillman might not be playing, this is likely to be built into the current money line. If he turns out to be healthy enough to play, the money line could come down a bit, giving us early value now. So, we like the upside potential here, and we’re taking the Bears money line of +230 at BetOnline.

The Bovada money lines for the Bears vs. Packers aren’t expected to go up until late Wednesday or early Thursday (Bovada is really slow), but we’ll update the odds in the table above once they’re available.

Bears vs. Chargers Over/Under

The current Packers vs. Bears over/under is 51.5 points, which I think is high. The total in the last meeting between the Packers & Bears was 56 points, but before that the under was 8-0 in the L8. The total has been increasing this week and if it keeps going higher I’d bet on the under in week 2.

We haven’t bet on the Packers vs. Bears over/under yet, but we’re keeping an eye on it. As we get closer to game time we’ll update this post with our final o/u prediction.
