2021 March Madness First Round PreviewWho isn’t excited about the 2021 NCAA basketball tournament?

The four “First Four” games will be played on Thursday and then the opening round of the tourney will be played on Friday/Saturday. After researching the bracket, we have the best ML picks.

While it’s unlikely we’re going to see a Cinderella team advance to the Final Four in 2021, I expect this weekend will be full of upsets, which means there’s likely plenty of value on money line bets.

Here are the top four March Madness underdog moneyline picks for the first round.

Top Four Moneyline Underdogs for March Madness First Round

The (#6) Texas Tech Red Raiders (17-10) are only 3-4 in their last seven games. (#11) Utah State (20-8) are coming off a loss to SDSU in the MWC title game, but they had won six prior.

There’s no doubt the Red Raiders are the better team and have played a much stronger schedule, but that’s why they’re favored. The Aggies aren’t getting any respect.

At one of the biggest US bookies, The Aggies have only had 24% of point spread bets on them, but that accounts for 37% of the handle, which means some big money is on the Aggies to cover ATS.

This will likely be a boring game, but that benefits us. The Aggies rank #8 in AdjD, while the Aggies rank #24 in AdjD. Neither team allows more than an average of 64.0 PPG this season.

The (#9) Missouri Tigers (16-9) will take on the (#8) Oklahoma Sooners (15-10).

It’s a classic #8 vs. #9 seed. Since 1985, #8 seeds have only gone 70-66 against #9 seeds in the tournament. In the last two tournaments, the #9 seeds have posted a stellar 7-1 record.

You can bet at least one #9 seed will win and I rank the Tigers look dangerous. Both of these teams struggle on defense. Oklahoma allows 69.2 PPG (125th) and Mizzou allows 71.9 PPG (202nd).

Oklahoma are on a 1-5 run. If Mizzou can limit Austin Reaves, this bet will cash.

This one is a longshot and the game may not even end up being played.

(#13) Ohio (16-7) have won three games in a row. (#4) Virginia (18-6) have been dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak and they aren’t even planning on traveling to Indianapolis until Friday.

If they do end up playing, they’ll likely be very shorthanded and could be without impact players.

This will leave the door wide open for the Bobcats. Ohio are one of the highest scoring teams in the nation (80.4 PPG – 14th) and Virginia will struggle to keep up if one of their top two players are out.

Virginia does have one of the top defenses, as they only allow 60.5 PPG (4th). However, with Virginia being locked down in quarantine and only practicing virtually, Ohio are a live dog at 3/1 odds.

The (#12) Winthrop Eagles (23-1) round out my top four moneyline underdog picks for the opening round of the big dance. They’ll play a banged up (#5) Villanova Wildcats (16-6) team.

With Collin Gillespie injured, the Wildcats are getting a lot less love. They come into the tournament on a 1-3 run. They beat #14 Creighton, but lost to three unranked opponents.

Winthrop average 79.5 PPG (19th) and play reasonably well on defense (66.8 PPG – 67th). I don’t think Nova are as good as many think and getting a huge price on the underdog looks great on paper.

Nova is a better team, but with Gillespie out, they’ve looked bad. Winthrop isn’t a team that garners national attention, but this is a strong team that can keep up on the scoreboard with anyone.

Cash In With a Huge March Madness Parlay

Even if we can go 2-2 on these March Madness moneyline underdog predictions, we’ll be up.

I also recommend a small parlay on these four picks. While unlikely, a $10 parlay would pay over $700 in profits. You can bet 4+ dogs will cash, but will we hit all of these?

Let us know who you’re betting on in the comments.

We’ll be back with more March Madness picks for the Second Round.
