2015 Super Bowl: Patriots vs. Seahawks Point Spread Betting

New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks – Super Bowl XLIX

When: Sunday, February 1st 2015 at 6:30pm ET
Where: University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona
Watch: Live on NBC

It seems that all we’ve been hearing about lately is “Deflategate” and I’m dreading listening to the broadcasters this week because it’ll remain a hot topic. Rather than dwell on that let’s preview the Super Bowl XLIX match-up and predict which team will win.

The Patriots absolutely thrashed the Colts (45-7) while the Seahawks had an incredible comeback to beat the Packers (28-22). I was impressed with the way Seattle found a way to win albeit due to some poor decisions by GB, as it showed how resilient they are.

Patriots vs. Seahawks Point Spread Odds

Everyone expects this to be a close game that could end up going either way. Most bookies have the Pats listed at –1, but some have favored the Seahawks by –1 instead. Rather than betting the point spread your best bet is to take the money line at better odds.

Three Reasons to Bet on the Seahawks to Win the 2015 Super Bowl

Seattle ended the regular season with the best defense in the NFL. They only allowed 185.6 PYPG (1st) and 81.5 RYPG (3rd). In order to beat the Patriots they need the defense to play well because we all know how fast the Patriots can score points once rolling.

I expect Pete Carroll to employ a run-heavy offensive game plan on Sunday after what happened against the Packers. Russell Wilson was terrible through the air against a questionable secondary. Look for the Seahawks #1 rushing offense (172.6 RYPG) to get going.

When the Pats play teams that can stop the run they tend to simply air it out at will without mixing things up. That’s a mistake in my opinion against the Seahawks because if they know Brady is sitting back and airing it out they’ll be able to force multiple turnovers.

Three Reasons to Bet on the Patriots to Win the 2015 Super Bowl

The Packers should have beat Seattle and it was because of the interceptions they forced. First off, the Pats will need to stop the run in order to force passing downs. Players like Darrelle Revis need to step up and force turnovers on passing downs for the Pats to win.

Last week the Patriots utilized Blount and it paid off, as they dominated the entire game. Blount is a lot like Lynch in that he’s a big powerful RB that can steamroll over defenders. In order to keep the Seahawks defense guessing the Pats need Blount to play well.

One thing Seattle isn’t built for is coming back from being down. They pulled off a miracle in the NFC Championship Game, but the turnovers proved why they aren’t a great team when trailing. Wilson forces throws and they abandon their potent run game.

Seahawks vs. Patriots Super Bowl Picks

These teams don’t play each other often although they met back in 2012. In that game the Seahawks won 24-23 because Wilson threw for 293 passing yards, 3 TD’s and 0 INT’s. If he can have another game like that Seattle will repeat at Super Bowl champs.

This is a tough game to predict because you just don’t know what Bill Belichick is thinking. You don’t know if the Pats will come out and throw the football 50 times or run the football 30 times. I can only picture the Patriots having success if Blount has a big game.

After what Seattle pulled off against GB I expect them to come together for this one last game and dominate. We seen what they did to the Broncos last year in the Super Bowl and it wouldn’t surprise me if this year’s Super Bowl ended up being a blowout as well.

Weather isn’t going to be a problem thankfully since the game is in Arizona. If it was in New York like last year there would be all kinds of problems with the weather they’re getting this week. Good luck and I’ll be back this week with more Super Bowl picks.
