2015 NBA Eastern Conference playoffs betting guide

Bet on the 2015 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs

Start Date: Saturday, April 18th 2015.

IT may have taken until the last night of the regular season, but the playoff seeding in the East is official.

The Indiana Pacers are out and the Brooklyn Nets are in, although neither team stands a chance against the Atlanta Hawks.

The best first round playoff series out of the East will undoubtedly be the Toronto Raptors vs. Washington Wizards. The #4 vs. #5 seed is always competitive. In fact, #5 seeds have gone 4-0 in the first round against #4 seeds the last two years.

Let’s take a look at the official seeding and first round match-ups in the NBA Eastern Conference.

Odds to win the NBA Eastern Conference 2015

Atlanta (60-22) has the best home record (35-6) and away record (25-16) in the Eastern Conference – yet the Cleveland Cavaliers (53-29) are getting most of the action to win the conference. The Hawks also have the best conference record (38-14).

I don’t believe the East is a one-horse race and at –200 odds, I advise against betting the Cavaliers.

The Chicago Bulls (50-32) ended the regular season on a 4-game winning streak (7-3 in L10). Derrick Rose is back, but in a limited capacity, which means the Bulls aren’t likely to eliminate the Cavs when they meet up in the second round of the playoffs.

I’m going with the Raptors to win the East. Before you laugh – hear me out.

My aim is for the Raptors to win two rounds. Toronto are 3-0 against the Wizards this season and 3-1 against Atlanta – the team they’re likely to meet in round two. At 16/1 odds, I’ll be able to hedge for a profit if the Raptors make the finals in the East.

We’re now going to breakdown each first round series and take a look at the series betting lines.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Brooklyn Nets series odds and predictions

Game #1: Sunday, April 19th 2015 at 5:30pm ET on TNT
Series Odds: Hawks -1250 vs. Nets +800
Series Predictions: Atlanta Hawks in 5 games.

Brooklyn (38-44) squeaked into the playoffs on the final night of the regular season, but it’s not like they’re playing good basketball right now. The Nets are 6-4 in their last ten games and the Hawks have dominated the Nets all season (4-0 H2H for Atlanta).

Losing Thabo Sefolosha will hurt the Hawks later in the playoffs, but it won’t against Brooklyn. Brook Lopez leads the Nets in scoring (17.2 PPG) and rebounding (7.4 RPG), but Joe Johnson, Thaddeus Young and Deron Williams all lack any sort of consistency.

The Hawks trio of Paul Millsap (16.7 PPG), Jeff Teague (15.9 PPG) and Al Horford (15.2 PPG) will be too much for the Nets to handle in round one. Many expect the sweep in this series, but I have the Nets winning one home game and losing in five games.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Boston Celtics series odds and predictions

Game #1: Sunday, April 19th 2015 at 3:00pm ET on ABC
Series Odds: Cavaliers -3500 vs. Celtics +1750
Series Predictions: Cleveland Cavaliers in 4 games.

At first glance – handicappers will look at the season series between the Cavaliers and Boston Celtics (40-42) and assume the Celtics might have a chance. The Celtics and Cavaliers split the season series (2-2) – with the C’s winning twice in the past week.

However, Kyrie Irving missed both games and Lebron James sat out once. James averaged 25.3 PPG, 7.4 APG and 6.0 RPG this season for the Cavs, plus he has a lot of help in Cleveland with the likes of Irving (21.7 PPG) and Kevin Love (16.4 PPG).

Isaiah Thomas (19.0 PPG) has the ability to takeover games offensively, but he’ll have trouble dealing with the Cavs size. Boston are loaded with young talent, which is great for the future, but the Cavaliers will sweep the Celtics in the opening round.

Chicago Bulls vs. Milwaukee Bucks series odds and predictions

Game #1: Saturday, April 18th 2015 at 7:00pm ET on ESPN
Series Odds: Bulls -700 vs. Bucks +500
Series Predictions: Chicago Bulls in 6 games.

I’m a fan of the Bucks (41-41) and this team will make some real noise in the East soon, but it won’t be in the 2015 NBA playoffs. The team is led by Michael Carter-Williams (14.1 PPG, 5.6 APG and 4.0 RPG), plus they have a very young nucleus.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (12.7 PPG and 6.7 RPG) and Khris Middleton (13.4 PPG and 4.4 RPG) will both put pressure on the Bulls to perform up to their ability. However, Rose, Jimmy Butler, Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah will prove too much for the young Bucks.

Butler (20.0 PPG) and Gasol (18.5 PPG and 11.8 RPG) are both having great seasons. The Bulls are 3-1 against the Bucks this season – losing the last meeting earlier this month. Milwaukee have the talent to win a couple games, but the Bulls advance in six games.

Toronto Raptors vs. Washington Wizards series odds and predictions

Game #1: Saturday, April 18th 2015 at 12:30pm ET on ESPN
Series Odds: Raptors -185 vs. Wizards +160
Series Predictions: Toronto Raptors in 7 games.

Knowing the Toronto Raptors (49-33) – it’ll likely take them 7 games to eliminate the Washington Wizards (46-36). Toronto were 4-0 against the Wizards this season, but they never make it easy come playoff time. However, I do expect the Raptors to advance.

John Wall (17.6 PPG, 10.0 APG and 4.6 RPG) has the talent to take this series over completely. Bradley Beal (15.3 PPG) can light it up, but he’s more of a defensive weapon. Nene Hilario will be active, but he’s banged up. Washington simply aren’t as deep as Toronto.

The Raptors will feed off of DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry. DeRozan has been on fire down the stretch, while Lowry has had a bit of time back after missing time with an injury. I believe Lou Williams is the piece the Raps were missing last year.
