2012 US Open Men’s Tennis Outright Winner Odds

The 2012 US Open is the last grand slam of the year and starts in one week on Monday, August 27th 2012. The big news leading up to the US Open tournament in the men’s bracket is that Rafael Nadal has dropped out due to injury. That should motivate other contenders in the field and we may see a high priced each-way winner this year.

Previewing the Top 2012 US Open Men’s Contenders

Novak Djokovic is the favourite and rightfully so based on his recent performance on the hard court. Djokovic won in Toronto at the start of August in the Rogers Cup and he just finished 2nd place in the Western & Southern Open. There is some concern, as Djokovic lost in the finals in Cincinnati to Federer in straight sets (0-6 6-7).

Djokovic is the defending the US Open after beating Nadal in 4 sets in 2011 and his recent form is excellent. In major events this year Novak has a 29-3 record on hard courts and he has gone through some high ranked competition. Djokovic’s form is great heading into the 2012 US Open and as long as he can keep his mental focus in the grand slam he’ll have a chance at winning.

Roger Federer will look to steal the championship in Flushing Meadows next week from Djokovic and in my opinion the value in the outright betting markets is on Federer at 3.50 odds. Federer is playing great tennis right now as well and if he can make it to the finals you could hedge your outright bet if you wanted to, as he wouldn’t be a 3.50 underdog.

Federer just beat Djokovic in Cincinnati and didn’t play in Toronto because the Olympics tired him out. Winning in Cincy was a good sign for Federer backers because it shows that he’s serious about winning the US Open. From 2004 – 2008 Federer won the US Open every single year, but his reign at the top has ended and he hasn’t made a US Open final since 2009.

Andy Murray won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in front of his home fans, but I don’t expect him to win at the US Open and I actually think Murray will make an early exit. Murray is only 21-6 on hard courts in 2012 and recently he was knocked out in Toronto and Cincinnati in the 3rd round. I don’t advise a bet on Murray next week at the 2012 US Open in the outright market.

Juan Martin Del Potro won a bronze medal at the Olympics this year and he has been performing well. His record is only 16-7 on the hard courts in 2012, but he made a decent run in Cincinnati making it to the semi-finals before losing to Djokovic. I think he can make it to the semi-finals and with a bit of luck he could beat the top players and win the US Open like he did in 2009.
