2012 British Open Betting Odds & Tips

The 2012 British Open kicks-off on Thursday this week at the Royal Lytham & St. Annes golf course. There are numerous promos running this week for the Open Championship including Paddy Power Mobile enhanced each-way terms. Paddies will be paying out each-way bets for the T7 places instead of the T6 like most of the other bookmakers this week.

2012 British Open Preview & Best Bets

Tiger Woods is the favourite to win this week at 10.00 odds, but he hasn’t done well in majors this year. Woods is 1st on the PGA money list in 2012 and he has 3 wins, but he doesn’t have a T10 in the two majors this year. Woods isn’t going to be suited with this course either, as you need to be very accurate and you have to pick up strokes with your short game.

Rory Mcilroy is 17.00 on the betting line right now, but I can’t see him competing at the top of the leaderboard. Rory’s last event on the PGA Tour was at the US Open where he missed the cut. Westwood is also paying 17.00 and I think he has the best shot to win out of the three favourites. Westwood is always competing in the majors, but he still has never been able to win one.

Westwood finished 3rd at The Masters and 10th at the US Open this year. Westwood should compete this week and there is some good value betting on him on the each-way market, as he could cash in both bets at solid odds. One golfer I really like is Padraig who is amongst the favourites at 19.00 odds right now although I think his price will shorten even more.

Harrington won the British Open in 2007 and 2008 plus his form this year in the two majors has been great. Harrington has a T8 finish at The Masters and a T4 finish at the US Open. Harrington has played a lot in Europe this season and he has been getting ready for the 2012 British Open the entire year. With each-way places being paid out to T7, Harrington is a solid betting tip.

Underdogs are always in the hunt in the final round it seems at the British Open and I’m sure this year we’ll have some big 100/1 or higher shots in the thick of things heading into Sunday’s round of golf. Make sure you look at other markets such as the top English golfer betting market where I’ve bet on Lee Westwood being the top English golfer this week at 3.50 odds. Don’t forget that Paddies is offering T7 on each-way bets this week for the British Open.

• Lee Westwood E/W 17.00

• Padraig Harrington E/W 19.00

• Lee Westwood Top English Golfer 3.50
