Auburn 5-0 (3-2 ATS) and Mississippi State 5-0 (4-1 ATS) meet in the game of the week on Saturday afternoon. These two programs remain undefeated and both of them are in talks to make the 4-team playoff. This will be an exciting high-scoring match-up.

Tigers vs. Bulldogs Point Spread Odds

Bet on the latest Tigers vs. Bulldogs point spread at Bovada (USA Allowed).

I’m surprised that the Tigers are favorites to win this game on the road. Mississippi State hasn’t been getting the respect that they deserve yet even though they’ve beaten two T10 opponents in the last two weeks. There is no total released for this game yet.

How the Auburn Tigers Will Win in Week 7

Auburn has wins over two ranked opponents including Kansas State (20-14) and LSU (41-7). LSU is having big problems this year, but they’re still a tough team to beat and Auburn absolutely dismantled the Tigers on both sides of the football this past Saturday.

This year the Tigers are averaging 42.0 PPG (15th), 268.0 RYPG (15th) and 229.2 PYPG (72nd) offensively. They have rushed the football 240 times this season while throwing 123 times. That’ll likely have to change this week, as the Bulldogs can stop the run well.

Mississippi State ranks 11th against the run (98.2 RYPG), but they rank 123rd against the pass (328.2 PYPG). Nick Marshall will have to step up big through the air. So far this season he has only completed 57.9% of his passes, but he also only has 1 INT (8 TD Passes).

The Bulldogs are allowing 19.4 PPG (22nd), but they allowed LSU to score 29 points and Texas A&M to score 31 points. Marshall will run the football regularly and the Bulldogs haven’t played a dual-threat QB that’s even close to as good as Marshall.

For Auburn to win this match-up they’ll need Marshall to complete a higher percentage of passes than he has been. He’ll be able to pick up yards on the ground, but Mississippi State will game plan to shutdown the run game and force Marshall to air it out.

How the Mississippi State Bulldogs Will Win in Week 7

After Mississippi State’s first three games everyone was saying that this team hasn’t played anyone yet and that they’ll come back down to earth shortly. That tune has changed, as the Bulldogs have now won two weeks in a row against LSU and Texas A&M.

The Bulldogs are picking up an average of 272.6 RYPG (14th) and 269.2 PYPG (43rd) while scoring 42.6 PPG (13th). Dak Prescott has had a monster season thus far. He has thrown for 1232 passing yards (13 TD’s) and he has rushed for 455 rushing yards (6 TD’s).

Josh Robinson has quietly put up big numbers as well at RB, as he has averaged 7.5 YPC and has 6 TD’s on 79 carries. The Bulldogs aren’t shy about sharing the football in the pass game, as a total of sixteen players on the team have caught at least one pass.

One area where the Tigers have a considerable edge is on defense. Auburn is allowing 100.2 RYPG (13th) and 206.4 PYPG (32nd) while holding teams to just 14.4 PPG (9th). Auburn has played some explosive offenses as well, so it’s not like they haven’t been tested.

Mississippi State will have to play stronger defense than they have in order to beat a tough Auburn team. Home field advantage is huge in college football though and that can’t be understated. They can’t afford to go down by double digits early in this one either.

Auburn vs. Mississippi State Predictions

With this game being played at Scott Field I’ll be on the Bulldogs to win at home. If you wait until later in the week you may be able to get +3 points, so it’s worth waiting. The home team has won in the H2H series the last three years and that won’t change.

Auburn has the edge on defense, but I’ve been so impressed with Prescott that I can’t bet against the Bulldogs at home. Auburn did beat KSU on the road already this year, but the atmosphere at Scott Field is going to be insane compared to that game.
