Week 10 Over / Under Odds for Cincinnati Bengals at NY Giants

Over / Under: 47 at the Bovada Sportsbook

The Giants are flying high with a 3-game winning streak, with previously slumping Eli Manning throwing 4 touchdown passes in a 28-23 home win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9.

The inconsistent Bengals are coming off a bye week following a disappointing 27-27 tie with Washington. Cincy stands at 3-4-1 and has only a 31-17 win over the hapless Browns to show for a dismal October, but the press in the Big Apple is not taking a Monday Night victory for granted.

Cincy has made the playoffs in each of the last 5 seasons and will give the Giants a good test. Despite their mid-season resurgence the Giants have not won 4 games in a row since 2013.

Will The Bengals Put It Together?

The Bengals are 1-7 in prime-time road games since starting QB Andy Dalton took over the helm in 2011. However, defensive end Gino Atkins has recorded 43.5 sacks since then and is having another huge year for the Paul Brownies.

Cincinnati has dealt with a difficult schedule in 2016/17, losing hard-fought games to the Steelers, Patriots and Cowboys. However, any discussion of the Bengals must begin with coaching and discipline after last year’s hard-to-watch mental meltdown in the final moments against Pittsburgh in the AFC playoffs. Marvin Lewis has served as head coach since the 1st George W. Bush administration, leading fans to believe he is simply entrenched as the team’s skipper despite years of self-inflicted wounds.

This season has been encouraging in the laundry department. In a flag-filled NFL year to date, Cincinnati is ranked a healthy 27th in penalty yardage with a total of 394 yards.

An interesting prop bet may be placed on talented WR A.J. Green to join Randy Moss as 1 of 2 NFL receivers to begin their career with 6 consecutive 1000-yard campaigns. Green needs 104 yards on Monday Night to hit the mark. Unless the Bengals are winning handily in the 2nd half (unlikely), Dalton should be firing Green’s way when Cincy has the football.

Can Eli Manning Keep It Up?

In a landscape where field generals are called “great” or “terrible” based on the stat line, Super Bowl QB-turned-NFL-pundit Kurt Warner has often argued that good QB play is more reflective of chemistry between passer and team.

So it goes with Eli, whose rating tends to go up or down with the overall fortune of the Big Blue. Rebounding from an early-season slump, Manning was excellent against the Eagles in Week 9, completing 22 of 36 passes for 257 yards and 4 touchdowns in victory.

But the Giants are struggling to run, ranked dead last in the league with a horrible 68.2 yards per game. HC Ben McAdoo has tried giving carries to rookies such as 5th-round pick Paul Perkins to try to cure the woes. Meanwhile, veteran WR Victor Cruz is optimistic about returning after suffering an ankle injury against Philadelphia.

To extend the Giants’ streak, Manning will need to toss quick, short passes and keep the sticks moving until his unit can manufacture some type of push up front.

Take The Over And The Giants To Win

New York feels like a value bet to cover. Manning plays his best when the lights are hot and the nation is watching – just ask the Patriots. Playing at home, it is easier for a QB to operate in the pocket even if an opposing front-7 is teeing off.

Any 1-dimensional offense must eventually pay the price, but that will likely happen when the Giants finally take the road again in Week 12, and not on ESPN against the prime-time challenged Bengals.

Out-of-conference/division games are likely to be high-scoring due to the lack of familiarity of opponents. For instance, the NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks fought to a 6-6 tie in a defensive struggle on October 23rd, but scored a combined 51 points in games against unfamiliar foes in Week 9.

With Eli scrambling and flinging, and Dalton passing to 1 of the finest receivers in the NFL, ample points should be scored. But playing at home, the re-energized Giants will find a way to win by at least a touchdown or a field goal on Monday night.
