TWO #2 seeds have made it to the Final Four and they’ll be playing in the first game on Saturday. This game will pit the Oklahoma Sooners against the Villanova Wildcats. The talk of the tournament has been Buddy Hield, but will he come through when it matters most? Let’s take a look at this match-up and find out.

I was surprised to see Villanova open as the favorite ATS and I’ve been even more surprised to see the public betting on the Wildcats. About 60% of point spread bets have been on Villanova. Handicappers are expecting points, as over 70% of the bets have come in on the over so far this week.

Wildcats vs. Sooners stats pack

The Sooners have the better offense, but Villanova are stronger defensively. Something will have to give in this game. One reason for the Wildcats success has been forcing turnovers, which Oklahoma has to avoid. In the Elite Eight, Villanova was able to force the Jayhawks into 16 turnovers.

So, how did these teams get here? Oklahoma has wins against CSU Bakersfield (82-68), VCU (85-81), Texas A&M (77-63) and Oregon (80-68). The only close game was against the Rams. Villanova has picked up wins against UNC Asheville (86-56), Iowa (87-68), Miami (92-69) and Kansas (64-59).

Villanova vs. Oklahoma Final Four ML predictions

The Hield show will continue into the NCAA Basketball National Championship Game. Hield has led his team in points in three of four tournament games and he’s averaging 29.3 PPG through four games. The one concern with the Sooners is depth. Outside of Hield, the rest of the team struggles to score.

Isaiah Cousins and Jordan Woodard are the only two consistent scorers behind Hield. Woodard comes into the game averaging 16.8 PPG and he’s the only other Sooner to score double-digits in every game. Cousins has scored double-digits in three of four games, but the big men haven’t been getting it done.

Ryan Spangler and Khadeem Lattin both played well against the Aggies, but they haven’t done much else on the offensive end. Villanova has a much more balanced attack offensively. Outside of Jalen Brunson, every starter is averaging double-digits in the tourney, with Ryan Arcidiacono (16.0 PPG) leading the way.

Daniel Ochefu, Josh Hart and Arcidiacono have all been playing good basketball for the Wildcats. Ochefu is a menace in the paint and tough to deal with on either end of the court. Hart has been stuffing the stat sheet all season and Arcidiacono has stepped up his play. Kris Jenkins has had a good tournament too.

This game hinges on whether you think Hield will go off again and score 25+ points, as he’ll need at least that many to help his Sooners win. Villanova has consistent scoring from all starters, so if one players is having a poor game, they can simply shift the offense through the other starters on the court.

Oklahoma doesn’t have that luxury and I wouldn’t be surprised if Villanova try to frustrate Hield with a lot of tight coverage on the outside. Hield can knock down 3-pointers from anywhere and the Wildcats can’t allow him to get hot from beyond the arc. If the Sooners score 75+ points, they’ll win the game.

These teams have already played once this season in the Pearl Harbor Classic. Oklahoma won 78-55 and while you shouldn’t put too much stock into that game, the big win should give the Sooners an edge this weekend, as they know exactly what they need to do to make the NCAAB National Championship Game.
