UFC 184: Rousey vs. Zingano predictions

UFC 184 Picks - February 28th 2015When: Saturday, February 28th 2015 at 8:00pm ET
Where: Staples Center in Los Angeles, California
Watch: PPV, Fox Sports 1 & UFC Fight Pass

UFC 184 will be hosted under the bright lights of Los Angeles at the Staples Center. Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano will fight in the main event for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.

I’m excited to finally watch Holly Holm in action under the UFC banner in the co-main event as well.

The main card is focused on the women of UFC and I’m not too excited about the other three fights. However, the prelims have a few interesting fights. Overall, I’m excited about the UFC 184 fight card, especially the main event and co-main event. The best women in the UFC will be on showcase.

Rousey vs. Zingano odds

Rousey opened up at –750 when UFC 184 odds initially were released – she has since been bet up.

Some shops have her as high as an –1100 favorite already and her odds are only going to go up, but you can still bet on Rousey (-850) at the Bovada Sportsbook.

Not only can you get great odds on Rousey at Bovada, but new bettors are entitled to a $250 bonus.

Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano fight preview

Bet on UFC 184 Rousey vs Zingano

While this will be the toughest test to date for Ronda Rousey (10-0), it’s hard to imagine Cat Zingano (9-0) presenting a real threat to the champion’s throne. Rousey is 4-0 in the UFC with wins over Liz Carmouche, Miesha Tate, Sara McMann and Alexis Davis.

Her first two wins came by way of submission, which was expected, as she was 6-0 prior to joining the UFC and those wins were all by submission. However, in her last two fights she has displayed her improved striking and won both fights by TKO/KO.

Zingano is undefeated in her career, including a 2-0 record in the UFC. She’s a power striker and can finish. Both of her UFC wins have come by TKO/KO against Tate and Amanda Nunes. I give the striking edge to Alpha, but here is why she’ll lose the fight.

Rousey is incredibly quick in the cage and can have her opponent on her back before she even knows what happened. There is a reason why she has won nine of her ten fights in the opening round.

Rowdy comes into this fight averaging over 2.5 takedowns per round in the UFC. Zingano has 55% TDD and she has been knocked down four times in her two UFC fights. Rousey will have no problem putting Zingano on her back and tapping her out eventually.

This main event isn’t that easy to bet on. There is no point betting on the Rousey ML straight up. She has shown us her power lately and could win by TKO/KO, but Zingano will be very tough to knockout and I expect Rousey to feel more comfortable submitting her.

Official UFC 184 fight card and betting lines

Holm has been highly hyped up and now she has the chance to show us what she has got. Holm is a former boxing world champion and will make Pennington eat a lot shots, but Pennington has a strong chin and will have an edge in the grappling department.

Pennington constantly pushes forward looking to engage her opponent, but that’s not going to work against a striker like Holm, as she’ll get picked apart. With all of that being said – I won’t be betting on Holm at these odds until she proves herself at this level.

Koscheck and Ellenberger are both UFC veterans, but are riding 3-fight losing streaks. Koscheck hasn’t fought since November 2013 and I’m sure there’ll be some cage rust.

Jouban is a favorite that you can’t trust at his insane odds and I’ll be intentionally avoiding him on all UFC 184 parlays. Apart from the women fights on the card, I’m most excited about Ferguson vs. Tibau.

Ferguson has won four fights in a row – three of which have come by stoppage. Tibau has won three consecutive fights, but all of the wins have been by decision. On the prelim cards, Munoz and Lewis are both bankers that you can trust on your parlays.

Yamamoto is 0-3 since joining the UFC. He should win his fight against Salazar, but there is no way I recommend betting him until he can show us that he can beat fighters at this level.

UFC 184 Parlay

Ellenberger (29-9) and Koscheck (17-8) both need a win. Ellenberger is on a bad run, but his three recent losses have been against MacDonald, Lawler and Gastelum. Jake lands more strikes, has way better TDD and will win this fight by decision against Koscheck.

Tibau (33-10) can grind out a win over most fighters, but he struggles against the top fighters in the weight class. Ferguson is 7-1 in the UFC and an elite finisher. Tibau has a questionable chin (3 TKO/KO losses) and Ferguson has a ton of power.

Based on his price, Krause (21-6) is my best bet on the UFC 184 card. Lazaro (12-3) lost his UFC debut to James Vick and I doubt he improved enough to beat Krause in the USA. Krause is a finisher (19 wins by stoppage) and he’ll beat Lazaro by stoppage.

I’m also adding Rousey ML to my parlay bet.

My UFC 184 parlay is Ellenberger, Ferguson, Krause and Rousey at +275 odds.
