Steelers vs. Ravens Betting Lines – Week 2 TNF Picks

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens Preview – NFL Week 2

Start Time: Thursday, September 11th 2014 at 8:25pm ET
Location: M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland
Network: CBS

The Pittsburgh Steelers 1-0 (0-1 ATS) won their home opener on Sunday against the Browns (33-30). Pittsburgh was up 27-3 at HT, but they allowed 24 unanswered points in the 2H and needed a last second FG to secure what should have been a blow out win.

Despite the Steelers struggles, I thought the Baltimore Ravens 0-1 (0-1 ATS) were even worse. Baltimore lost to Cincinnati (23-16) at home and was scoreless late into Q3. They almost snuck away with a win, but the defense couldn’t hold up in the final minutes.

If you like the Steelers I’d bet on them now because this spread will be +2.5 at best by Thursday night. I don’t expect to see the total moving much, if at all, this week. Baltimore looked good defensively last week despite the poor performance by their offense.

Will the Steelers Move to 2-0 in the AFC North?

Ben Roethlisberger looked sharp when he needed to be against the Browns. Big Ben completed 23 of 34 pass attempts for 365 yards and 1 TD. He threw one interception in the game and he was also sacked four times for a loss of 24 yards this past Sunday.

Le’Veon Bell was the player of the game, as he rushed for 109 yards and 1 TD on 21 carries. Bell also had 6 receptions for 88 yards in the pass game. Antonio Brown (116 Receiving Yards & 1 TD) and Markus Wheaton (97 Receiving Yards) both played great as well.

Pittsburgh was able to limit Brian Hoyer to 206 passing yards and 1 TD, but the Steelers run defense was terrible. The Browns were able to rush for 183 yards on 30 carries (6.0 YPC) and Pittsburgh will have to improve in that area if they want to win the AFC North.

Last week the Ravens should have really beat the Bengals, but Joe Flacco played terribly. Flacco only completed 35 of 62 passes for 345 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Every time the Ravens needed Flacco to make a play he was unable to find an open receiver.

Bernard Pierce rushed for 14 yards on 6 carries. Pierce also lost a fumble in the game. Justin Forsett looked much better running the football, as he had 70 rushing yards and 1 TD on 11 carries. I expect to see more of Forsett this week with Ray Rice still suspended.

Steve Smith (118 Receiving Yards & 1 TD) and Dennis Pitta (83 Receiving Yards) both played well. Defensively, the Ravens held Cincy to only 16 first downs, but they gave up multiple big plays, which allowed the Bengals to pile up 380 total yards on offense.

Steelers vs. Ravens Week 2 Point Spread Prediction

I still can’t believe that Joe Flacco was rewarded with a huge contract, as he really looks lost on the field at times. He cost his team a FG before HT, which would have made the game 15-3 and could have shifted the momentum in favor of Baltimore.

Pittsburgh’s secondary looked good in week 1 even though they were playing against Hoyer. The problem was the run defense, but the Ravens are still without Rice and I expect the Steelers to make the needed adjustments to shutdown Pierce and Forsett.

Brown will have a big game for the Steelers as well. A.J. Green had 6 receptions for 131 yards and 1 TD against the Ravens secondary and Browns should be able to put up comparable numbers, especially since Baltimore will have to focus on Bell on the ground.

These two teams went 1-1 H2H last season with each team winning at home. Pittsburgh won 19-16 at home and the Ravens won 22-20 at home. The last five H2H meetings between these two teams have ended within a FG, which is why I love getting +3 points.

I don’t feel strongly about the game total, but I lean to the over hitting. Pittsburgh moved the football well last week and they also had some problems on defense. I expect there to be 50+ points in this game despite most H2H games staying under the total.
