Seahawks vs. Redskins Over Under

Kickoff: 4:30pm EST. Sunday, January 6, 2013
Location: FedExField, Landover, MD
TV: FOX. Pregame show starts at 4:00

The Seahawks vs. Redskins over/under is the most interesting O/U bet of Wild Card weekend. To save us all some time, I’m going to skip all the RGIII and Russell Wilson talk (is there anything left to say?), and get straight into this wager.

This over/under is difficult to handicap, but it’s one of those bets that can make us feel really smart (or really stupid). Bettors are all over the place on this one, and honestly it’s a bigger gamble than most wagers available this weekend. I’ve heard arguments for both sides of the over/under and can see this one going either way. In the end it’s like any other bet, and deciding what you think is most likely to happen.

Seahawks vs. Redskins Over/Under Odds: NFC Wild Card

The Seahawks vs. Redskins over under opened at 45.5 but quickly popped to 46 early in the week. Now (early Sunday morning), the O/U is starting to creep up just a bit. Over bettors can still get 46 (-110) at JustBet, but under bettors can get 46 (-105) at Bovada, or 46.5 (-110) at BetOnline.

My Pick: Over 46 (-110) at JustBet.cx

Redskins/Seahawks Over/Under Analysis

One reason the Seahawks vs. Redskins over/under is hard to predict is because we have a huge offense going against a huge defense. Whoever wins this battle is likely to determine if the game goes over or under.

The Washington offense, led by rookie QB Robert Griffin III and rookie RB Alfred Morris ranks 4th in the NFL in points per game (27.2), and first in rushing yards per game (169.3). Morris finished the regular season with 1613 rushing yards and 13 TD’s, while RGIII added 815 yards and 7 TD’s on the ground. They don’t have a dominant WR, but they throw the ball around to a lot of guys. RGIII hit 4 receivers for 500+ yards each, and a combined 17 TD’s.

The Seattle defense ranks #1 in points allowed, giving up just 15.3 points per game. They rank 10th against the rush (103.1 RYPG), and 6th against the pass (203.1 PYPG).

The Redskins defensive stats don’t tell the whole story. This is a defense that has been improving throughout the year, and a lot of bettors aren’t giving them credit for it. They aren’t going to dominate the Seahawks offense, but they should be able to give them a good fight. On the season, the Seahawks are scoring a respectable 25.8 points per game, good for 9th in the NFL.

My Seattle Seahawks vs. Washington Redskins Over/Under Pick

You thought I was going to pick the under didn’t you? Well I’m not. Even with everything I said above, I think there is a slight edge on the over, if you get your bet in before it goes any higher. Although anything is possible, RGIII and Russell Wilson have done nothing but improve all season long. They might be rookies, but they’re rookies who’ve learned a ton since the beginning of the season. They understand their offenses better now, and read defenses better as well. They make better decisions now as well, and that alone could be the difference.

I think the Seahawks/Redskins over under comes down to one play late in the game, eeking out a win for over bettors. My gut is telling me that over/under bettors will be on the edge of their seats until the bitter end, and something like a late field goal will make the difference. As a result, I want the lowest total I can find, and that’s at JustBet.cx.
