Seattle QB’s Dazzle in Preseason Opener Against Titans
Seattle opened their preseason schedule last week with a 27-17 win over the Tennessee Titans (0-1, 0-1). The Seahawks saw solid performances from two of their quarterbacks, but the big story was rookie Russell Wilson.
Wilson is in a three way race with Matt Flynn and Tavaris Jackson for a spot and was definitely interested in impressing. In the second half he completed 12-16 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Hungry rookies like Wilson who are looking to make a name for themselves are exactly the element sharp bettors look for in preseason games.
A young guy like this isn’t afraid of getting hurt and treats a preseason outing like the real thing. And when he’s facing a second or third string defense in the last half of a preseason game, he’s got a lot of scoring potential.
Denver Defense Could Shine in 2012 NFL Season
Though Peyton Manning is the big media story in Denver this season, a revamped defense is what sports bettors will be watching.
Remember, head coach John Fox is a defensive coordinator at heart. With Manning at the offensive helm, he’s able to devote more time to Denver’s rapidly improving d-line. Last week the Broncos held a battered Chicago Bears offensive unit to just three points. That’s a trend that’s likely to hold steady.
Don’t expect to see much of Manning tonight, this outing will be all about getting backup Caleb Hanie some time on the field. Hanie, a Colorado State University graduate, will likely feel a little more love from Denver fans than the average backup QB.
Against the Bears, Hanie went 7-14 for 79 yards and no touchdowns. There’s no reason to think he won’t be keeping things on the ground tonight, so this could be a low scoring game.
DEN vs. SEA Preseason Week 2 Moneyline & Over/Under Predictions
Given the enthusiasm surrounding Denver’s defense, Wilson and company may have trouble getting much offense going in Sports Authority Field. There’s plenty of enthusiasm in Denver this season and, as long as Denver is ahead, the crowd should be unusually raucous for a preseason game.
For that reason, we’ll recommend taking Denver -120 and the Under 37.5 (-110) in this one.
