Rockets vs Warriors Game 2 Western Conference Finals Betting

Houston Rockets vs. Golden State Warriors – NBA Western Conference Finals – Game 2

Tip-Off: Thursday, May 21st 2015 at 9:00pm ET
Venue: Oracle Arena in Oakland, California
TV: ESPN

THE Golden State Warriors just earned a thrilling game 1 victory against the Houston Rockets (110-106).

If the opening game of the Western Conference finals was a sign to come – we’re in for a great series. The pressure will be on the Rockets to bounce back in game 2, as going down two against the best team in the NBA will be tough to come back from.

Rockets vs. Warriors betting lines for game 2

The lines just opened up for game 2 and the Warriors are -10 point favorites at home, while the over/under has opened up at 220 points, after a high-scoring opener. The money line hasn’t opened up yet, but the Rockets will be at a tempting price.

Starting line-ups

However, before you can consider betting on the Rockets, we need to wait for updates on Dwight Howard.

Howard had to leave game 1 with a bruised knee in the 4th quarter and he only ended up playing 26 minutes. If Howard can’t play – Clint Capela would likely draw the start at center, although I’d expect Terrance Jones to see the biggest upside if Howard sits.

Can a banged up Rockets team beat the Warriors in game 2?

Houston kept game 1 close, despite Howard being injured, but let’s take a look at the numbers.

The Rockets shot 40 of 86 (46.5%) from the field and 8 of 22 on 3-pointers (36.4%), while the Warriors shot 43 of 92 (46.7%) from the field and 10 of 29 (34.5%) on 3-pointers. Houston also won the battle on the glass (47 rebounds vs. 43 rebounds).

Houston also were level in fast break points (28 apiece) and had more points in the paint (52 vs. 50).

Bogut finished with zero points on 0 of 3 shooting from the field, while Thompson was held to 15 points on 6 of 18 shooting from the field (1 of 7 on 3-pointers). Once Thompson and Bogut pick it up will the Rockets have any chance at hanging close?

The fact the Warriors won the game, despite losing in many statistical categories shows how good the GSW are.

Curry led all scorers with 34 points on 13 of 22 shooting from the field (6 of 11 on 3-pointers). If Curry can continue shooting this well, the Rockets are in big trouble. James Harden finished with 28 points on 11 of 20 shooting from the field to lead Houston.

Rockets at Warriors game 2 predictions

I’m betting on the Warriors to cover the point spread even though it’s massive. Here’s my reasoning.

Houston played about as good as they’re going to play with a banged up Howard in game 1 and still lost by four points. That has to be demoralizing for the Rockets and I believe they’ll struggle in game 2 before heading home and potentially bouncing back.

Don’t forget – the Clips dominated the Rockets in three games in the last series, so it’s not out of the question for the Warriors to win by double-digits at home. Thompson and Bogut are both players that’ll bounce back on Thursday.

If those two get going – the GSW will blow out the Rockets in game 2.

Curry is going to average 30+ points this series, as the Rockets simply can’t defend him. The Rockets can’t defend the PG position at all since Patrick Beverley went down with an injury. Shaun Livingston had 18 points for the Warriors in game 1.

For those that like the Rockets to win – head over to CrownBet and bet on the Rockets money line at 4.80 odds. If the Rockets are leading in the final three minutes, but go on to lose the game, CrownBet will refund your stake for up to $50 maximum.

This point total is high and has a good chance to be bet lower before tip-off, especially if Howard sits.

A lot has to go right for an NBA game to have 220 points – even a game involving the highest scoring team in the league.

Both teams shot the basketball well in game 1 other than from the charity stripe. The Warriors went 14 of 22 (63.6% on FT’s, while the Rockets went 18 of 28 (64.3%) from the FT line.
