Ravens Home Underdogs Against the Packers

Green Bay Packers vs. Baltimore Ravens Preview

Kick-Off Time: Sunday, October 13th 2013 at 1:00pm ET
Location: M&T Bank Field in Baltimore, Maryland

The Green Bay Packers 2-2 (2-2 ATS) have opened up as small road favorites against the Baltimore Ravens 3-2 (3-2 ATS). The Ravens are a perfect 2-0 ATS at home this season while the Packers have struggled on the road and are sitting at 0-2 ATS so far this year.

Packers vs. Ravens Betting Lines

Green Bay is favored by –2.5 (-115) right now, but with the juice already at –115 I expect the spread to go up soon. The game total in this match-up is sitting at O/U 48 points and that has a lot to do with how well the Packers offense has been playing as of late.

Green Bay Searching for Second Consecutive Win

The Packers have alternated wins and losses to start the season. They won at home last week against a depleted Lions (21-9), but it had a lot to do with the injuries on the Lions offense. They’ll have a much bigger test this week on the road against Baltimore.

Green Bay’s offense is starting to hit its stride and once the rookie running backs become more comfortable this offense is going to be next to impossible to stop. The Packers currently average 29.5 PPG (3rd), 312.2 PYPG (4th) and 141 RYPG (5th) offensively.

Aaron Rodgers has a QBR of 105.5 and he has completed 66.4% of his passes for 1331 passing yards, 9 TD’s and 3 INT’s. These stats are expected from him, but the bigger story has been the run game. Lacy, Franklin and Starks all have 100+ rushing yards already.

Baltimore Looking to Remain Undefeated at Home

Baltimore is 2-0 at home, but those wins have come against the Browns and Texans. The Ravens have only really played one quality opponent this season and they lost in week 1 against the Broncos (49-27), so this will be a good test to see where they’re at.

The Ravens are doing great against the rush on defense, but the secondary is giving up 245.6 PYPG (16th). Offensively the Ravens are scoring 23.4 PPG (14th). They’re averaging 253 PYPG (14th), but the rushing attack has been dreadful (77.8 RYPG – 27th).

Last week Baltimore tried to get the run game going, as Rice had 27 carries, but he only gained 74 yards. The o-line needs to improve and Rice has to pick it up as well. The bad news was that Flacco had another poor game with 0 TD’s and 1 INT on the day.

Important Players in This Week 6 Match-Up

Aaron Rodgers is playing great this season, but in two career games against Baltimore he has a QBR of 73.9 with 3 TD passes and 3 INT’s. Rodgers will need to play much better than he has in the past against the Ravens if the Packers want a chance to win.

Torrey Smith is going to be important in this game, as he is the biggest threat downfield for the Ravens against the weak secondary of the Packers. Torrey Smith has 27 receptions (20.6 Yards per Catch), but he only has 1 TD on the season and has to do better.

Opponents have sacked Flacco 14 times this season and the Packers will need to put pressure on him to force mistakes. That’ll be a bit tougher this week, as Clay Matthews is injured. Nick Perry has 2 sacks on the season and needs to produce with Matthews out.

Rodgers has been sacked 11 times and this week he’s going to feel the pressure. Terrell Suggs is having a great season so far and has picked up 7 sacks already along with 36 combined tackles. Suggs has to put pressure on Rodgers to disrupt the Packers pass game.

Packers vs. Ravens Predictions

This is going to be a great game on Sunday, but I’ll be betting on the Packers to cover the point spread on the road. Baltimore hasn’t been tested at home yet and the Packers have a T5 offense that will be able to test this defense like the Broncos were able to do.

Flacco still isn’t playing well and that’s against weaker teams than Green Bay. It’s hard to trust him after his rough start to the season and the running game is having trouble to get going. Not having Clay Matthews will hurt, but the Packers can overcome his injury.
