Over/Under Betting: Clippers vs. Thunder Game 5

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Start Time: Tuesday, May 13th 2014 at 9:30pm ET
Location: Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City
TV Station: TNT

The Los Angeles Clippers just made a miraculous comeback on Sunday afternoon to tie the series at 2-2. At one point OKC had a 20+ point lead in the game, but they were unable to hang on, as the Clippers kept chipping away and they won the game 101-99.

Latest Game Total in LAC @ OKC – Game Five NBA Playoffs

The over/under betting lines were just released for game five in the OKC vs. LAC series and the total is 212.5 points. Game 4 was low scoring, but the other three games in the series have had 213+ points. I expect this total to climb 1-2 points before tip-off.

Why the Thunder vs. Clippers Game 5 Will Go Over the Total

Kendrick Perkins isn’t in the line-up for his offensive production, but in 22 minutes on Sunday he scored a single point. Serge Ibaka (2 of 5) hit two three pointers early, but finished with 8 points, which was the first time this series he didn’t score in double digits.

As a team the Thunder were held to 9 offensive rebounds in G4, which was also the first time they were held to under double digits in offensive rebounds. In the first two games in Oklahoma City the Thunder had 15 offensive rebounds in each of the games.

Players are driving the lanes more often in the last couple games and drawing fouls plus the series has been scrappy, which has been a contributing factor to the increase in FT’s. In G1/G2 the teams combined for 98 FT’s while in G3/G4 they combined for 116 FT’s.

Kevin Durant has scored more points as each game in this series has progressed. He struggled in the opening game (25 points), but he has since scored 32 points (G2), 36 points (G3) and 40 points (G4). If he finds his 3-point stroke he’ll start eclipsing 50+ points.

He has gone 7 of 25 from 3-point distance in the series including 2 of 11 in the L2 games. He has been settling for a lot of deep shots rather than attack the basket. In G4 he got to the line 18 times (15 of 18) and he needs to continue getting to the charity stripe.

The Clippers are attacking the paint more often, which I think is smart even with Ibaka blocking a lot of shots. Griffin did a good job backing his defender down in the paint in G4 and has to continue being aggressive if the Clippers want to have a shot at this series.

LAC has scored 42 points in the paint (G1), 36 points in the paint (G2), 48 points in the paint (G3) and 52 points in the paint (G4). If they can continue scoring 50+ points in the paint they should have no problem scoring over 100+ points on the Thunder defense.

Both teams are really struggling the last couple games to hit the deep shot, but look for that to improve. In the opening two games the Thunder and Clippers combined to shoot 41 of 107 (38.32%) from 3-point distance, but those numbers are way down.

In G3 and G4 the two teams went 23 of 88 (26.14%) from deep, which is low for these two teams. I expect the 3-point shooting to improve in game 5 and that’ll help the total head over 212.5 points. Durant and Chris Paul are both in a funk from beyond the arc.

Thunder vs. Clippers Game 5 Over/Under Pick

With the last game staying under the total it might look like a good idea to bet the under again, but I believe this game will cruise over the total. These teams love to shoot the deep ball and if they start hitting them like early in the series we’ll see tons of points.

I’d jump on the total now, as I think it may increase a bit before tip-off. It’s already a fairly high total, but these two teams can put up serious points and they aren’t really that good defensively. The key for this bet will be whether or not they can hit their 3’s.
