Orlando Magic vs. Toronto Raptors Game 2 Over/Under Pick

Orlando Magic(43-40) @ Toronto Raptors(58-25)

  • Where: Scotiabank Arena. Toronto, Ontario
  • When: April 16, 2019 8:00 pm EST
  • Spread: Magic +9.5 (-110) vs. Raptors -9.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Magic +390 vs. Raptors -580
  • Over / Under: Over 210 Points (-110) vs. Under 210 Points (-110)

The Orlando Magic cashed as huge moneyline underdogs in the opening game of their NBA playoff series against the Toronto Raptors. D.J. Augustin drained a three-pointer with 4.2 seconds left in the game to give the Magic a 104-101 lead. Orlando held on in the final seconds to win.

Augustin led the charge for Orlando with 25 points and 6 assists. Nikola Vucevic had a poor game, as he shot 3/14 from the field and failed to finish with a double-double.

Kawhi Leonard led Toronto with 25 points and Pascal Siakam finished with 24 points. Those two were expected to lead Toronto in scoring, but no one would have predicted Kyle Lowry not scoring in the game. Lowry was 0/7 from the field and he missed both of his free throw attempts.

The game 1 curse is real in Toronto. The Raptors defeated the Wizards in the opening game of their first round series last season, but prior to that Toronto had lost seven consecutive game 1’s dating back to 2013-14. They won game 2 in four of those seven playoff series.

Magic vs. Raptors Series Betting Overreaction

Prior to the start of the first round playoff series, the Raptors were priced at -1500 to win the series against the Magic. Bovada now has the Raptors priced at -260 to win the series. Now would be an ideal time to bet on Toronto because if they win game 2 the odds will move drastically again.

Magic at Raptors Game 2 Total Prediction

Orlando vs Toronto NBA Playoffs Betting

The first game stayed under the total of 213 points, as the teams scored 205 points. The bookies are adjusting slightly for game 2, as the total has opened up at 210 points. I expect the total to move up a point or two, so waiting until closer to tip-off to bet on the under is what I would recommend.

A lot of people will point to the Raptors offense struggling in the opening game, which at times they did, but they weren’t too far off their season shooting averages. Toronto shot 45.5% from the field (47.3% during the season) and 33.3% on 3-pointers (36.6% during the season).

During the playoffs defenses tighten up and the pace typically slows down. These two teams don’t play at an electric pace either. Toronto rank 14th in possessions per game (104.2), while the Magic rank 25th (101.5). Both teams also rank in the top 10 in points allowed and defensive efficiency.

Orlando was shooting lights out in the series opener. The Magic shot 48.3% (14/29) on 3-pointers, which is much better than they shot it during the season (35.7%) and not sustainable.

It wouldn’t surprise me if neither team scored more than 100 points in game 2. Augustin isn’t going to consistently score 20+ points and the Magic won’t shoot close to 50% on 3-pointers. Toronto will continue to struggle in the playoffs and won’t be able to pull away from the Magic.

Free NBA Parlay Picks for Tuesday, April 16th 2019

There are three NBA games on Tuesday. The Nuggets host the Spurs and will look to even the series before heading to San Antonio after losing game 1 (101-96). The Trail Blazers and Thunder also play on Tuesday, but no odds are out yet, as game 1 isn’t until later this afternoon.

The Nuggets are going to feel the pressure to win and a -6 point spread is manageable at home in a must win game. Nikola Jokic had a triple-double in game 1, but he only scored 10 points. He scored 20.1 PPG this season and I expect him to eclipse 20 points in game 2.

Denver shot 21.4% (6/28) on 3-pointers in the first game and they won’t shoot that poorly again this series. The Nuggets only shot 35% (20th) on 3-pointers during the season, so they aren’t one of the top shooting teams in the league, but they’re better than how they played in the opener.

A lot of people have the Spurs upsetting the Nuggets in the first round. I agree with that prediction, but the series is likely going seven games and Denver will win at home. During the season series the Nuggets went 2-0 at home and they’ll find a way to cover ATS in game 2.
