It’s one of the oldest rivalries in professional sports, rekindled twice a year in the northern part of the Midwest United States. In Week 15 the Green Bay Packers are heading down to Illinois to face their hated rivals, the Chicago Bears.

The Packers head into Soldier Field with little control over their playoff destiny. With the Detroit Lions currently holding a two-game lead in the NFC North, the Packers need to win to keep the dream alive.

The Bears, on the other hand, are well out of playoff contention with only three wins on the season, and yet are surging in their own right these past few weeks, playing substantially better under the leadership of Matt Barkley than they did with franchise quarterback Jay Cutler.

These two teams always play each other close, and this matchup in Chicago should be no exception. Let’s take a look at each team individually and determine what value this matchup holds for interested parties.

It might be time to buy stock in the Green Bay Packers

GB vs CHI PredictionsThe Packers had a coming out party Week 14 against the rival Seattle Seahawks. As revenge against the Fail Mary of years ago, this time when the Seahawks came to Lambeau Field they were served a 28-point loss.

While there’s no doubt that a five-interception game only happens once or twice a career, the fact remains that Green Bay sent a message that their stock is tending up. At the end of their historically bad 4-game losing streak, the Pack had a 6% chance of making the playoffs. Since then, they’ve won three straight, and currently have a 1-in-3 chance of winning the division and making the playoffs.

With the Lions heading into tough matchups against the Giants and Cowboys before playing the Packers at Ford Field in Week 17, and the Packers playing division opponents Bears and Vikings during Weeks 15 and 16, there’s undoubtedly an argument to be made that the surging Packers could win the next two and the fraudulent Lions lose the next two, or that they both split and end up playing for the division Week 17.

Of course there’s no reason to believe that this scenario is more likely than any other scenario — after all, the Packers odds do sit at 1 in 3. However, gamblers are always in search of good value, and if the Packers win this week against the Bears, and the Lions lose against the Giants in New York, the odds could become much less favorable.

As things stand right now, at the Bovada sportsbook the Packers are getting +165 to win the NFC North (Lions at -220), +800 to win the NFC (Lions at +1000), and +1600 to win the Super Bowl (Lions at +2000). With Aaron Rodgers getting hot (3 touchdowns against the Seahawks’ defense) and the defense finally healthy (from a –5 to a +1 turnover ratio in one game), the Packers could be poised to go on a run.

Once again, they could just as easily miss the playoffs. However, the only point to be made here is that if gamblers are interested in buying stock in the Green Bay Packers, then now is the time to buy.

The Chicago Bears’ off-season starts now

The Bears have played very entertaining football these last few games, with the team starting to rally behind quarterback Matt Barkley. After the loss of both starting quarterback Jay Cutler and backup Brian Hoyer, Barkley has gotten the opportunity to audition for a starting job, and has played well.

In addition, the defense has become healthier in recent weeks, and came out firing against the division rival Detroit Lions last week, ending up with three sacks and a pick-6. With their postseason dreams dead and buried, the Bears will be able to use the last four games to give their young players some valuable game-time experience.

Why I’m wagering on the Packers and Giants on a two-team NFL teaser Bet

The Lions have built a tenuous 5-game win streak playing bad teams, and the Packers are coming off of a 3-game win streak that included beating the Seattle Seahawks by 4 touchdowns. In December, the good teams hang around, and there’s a strong case to be made that the NFC North is headed for a Week 17 showdown to decide who will represent the division in the 2016/17 playoffs.

With the additional 6 points gained from throwing the Lions and Packers in a teaser, you get Packers –.5 in Chicago, and Giants +1.5 at home. This gives you even odds for the Packers to win and Lions to lose, and combined with the Packers odds to win the division, you’ve got plenty of opportunities to put stock in Green Bay this week.

I predict that the Giants will beat the Lions, and that the Packers will beat the Bears, and I recommend taking the two teams on a teaser or a moneyline parlay at the Bovada sportsbook.
