Liverpool v Manchester City betting tips – EPL Matchweek 27

Bet on Liverpool v Man City - March 1st 2015When: Sunday, March 1st 2015 at 7:00am ET
Where: Anfield in Liverpool, England
Watch: TSN, NBC Sports & Sky Sports 1

LIVERPOOL (13-6-7) will try to make up more ground on the league table with a win over Manchester City (16-7-3) at Anfield.

This is a tough match-up at home for the Reds, but they’re in great form, as they haven’t lost in league play since mid-December. Despite the excellent run of form, Liverpool are 6th on the league table.

Man City are 2nd on the league table – trailing Chelsea still. City have won two in a row in the Premier League by a combined score of 9-1 (4-1 at Stoke City and 5-0 v Newcastle). However, they just lost to Barcelona (2-1) at Etihad in Champions League action.

These two teams split the H2H series (1-1) last campaign – with each team winning at home. City have beat Liverpool (3-1) at home already this season and now the Reds will look to even up the series. One thing’s for sure; the bookmakers don’t expect a draw.

Can the Reds split the H2H series with the Citizens this season?

You can bet Liverpool wish they started the season better – because they’d be contending for the league title. Since losing to Man U (3-0) on December 14th, the Reds are 7-3-0. During that span Pool have had six clean sheets, including five in their last six matches.

It doesn’t get much better than that. Brendan Rogers has his squad playing the best football since last season. The Reds form could improve further, as Stevan Gerrard and Mamadou Sakho could return from injury. Philippe Coutinho has also been rested up.

Liverpool comes into the match scoring 1.54 GPG, while conceding 1.00 GPG at Anfield. Goals have been a bit of a problem for Pool this season. Gerrard and Raheem Sterling lead the team with six goals, but the rest of the team have only combined for 22 goals.

Manuel Pellegrini will have his entire side fit for the match. Yaya Toure served his suspension against Barcelona and will be rested up for this match. I want to see James Milner in the line-up, but that’s not likely. Edin Dzeko will likely start over Wilfried Bony as well.

City have been better in away matches (8-4-1) than home matches (8-3-2), which is surprising. City score 2.31 GPG and concede 1.00 GPG when playing away from Etihad. The Citizens are the highest scoring team in the Premier League when playing away.

Predicted line-ups

Liverpool

Manchester City

We won’t have confirmed line-ups until Sunday morning, but they won’t differ much from above. Gerrard may be ready to go and we may see Bony get the start upfront for City. This is a big match for both squads and the stars will be out in force.

Liverpool v Man City predictions

I predict that both teams will score in this match and the total will land on over 2.5 goals. City have scored 2+ goals against Liverpool in their last six H2H PL matches. City have also struggled at Anfield (0-4-7 in last 10), so Pool will be able to get on the score sheet.

I’m not going to touch the 1X2 market. Liverpool in the DNB (draw no bet) market looks good, but there is no way I’m betting against Manchester City. They have been scoring goals for fun in league play and they always seem to net goals when playing the Reds.

You can get the best odds on Aguero to score anytime at Coral (+120 / 2.20). Aguero scored the lone goal against Barcelona, plus he has scored 3 goals in the Citizens’ last two PL matches. At plus money, I’ll definitely take a shot on Aguero to score on Sunday.

If you want to target a Liverpool player in the anytime goalscorer market, I really like Sterling (+260) or Coutinho (+500). Both players scored in Liverpool’s last league match against Southampton and are a great punt to score against City.
