Miami Heat vs Chicago Bulls NBA Game Preview

A rough five game road trip for Miami ends in the Windy City. The swing started with road overtime wins against Milwaukee and Portland before the Heat fell to the Clippers on Tuesday night. James was injured in this game and missed Thursday’s contest against Denver, where they got destroyed by 28 points. This is the first meeting between the Bulls and Heat in the 2010 – 2011 NBA season.

Miami had been on fire until the Clippers ended their nine game win streak. Overall, the Heat are 23-4 since Thanksgiving, with Dallas owning two of those wins. James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade are the Heat version of the big three and combine for an average of 69.1 points; nearly 70 percent of the Heat’s 10th ranked offense. The key to Miami’s recent run has been defense. They rank third in the league in points allowed at only 92.7 and held 22 of their 26 opponents under 100 points in their hot streak since Thanksgiving. A weakness has been the play of point guard Carlos Arroyo who is averaging only 6.6 points per game and 2.2 assists. Center Zydrunas Ilgauskas is averaging 4.9 assists while James leads the team with 7.2 helpers per game.

Chicago has been inconsistent of late going 3-3 in their last six games, with losses to New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Charlotte. These were followed up with a 99-86 win against Indiana on Friday.

The Bulls miss Joakim Noah who has been out for over two months with a hand injury. Derrick Rose has been a force so far in the 2010 -2011 NBA season, averaging 24.1 points per game with 8.1 assists and 4.4 boards. He’s quick & dangerous off the dribble and is every team’s first defensive priority. The battle between Rose and Wade will be worth watching.

Without James in the lineup, the Bulls are a slight favorite at home. The Bulls also rise up against better competition, especially at home. We’re taking the Bulls to win this game by 4-6 points.
