Handicapping the 2015 MLB World Series futures market

Bet on the 2015 MLB World SeriesWORLD Series futures are open year-round – next year’s markets open up right after the World Series is over and remain open until the season is over. When betting markets are open that long you can expect a ton of movement that handicappers can benefit from.

Sprint Training is in full swing and all of the big free agents have signed with a team. At this point some teams have seen their odds to win the World Series steam in. However, there is still a lot of value left in the market.

Biggest MLB free agent signings

Here is a quick breakdown of the biggest free agent signings during the 2014-15 MLB off-season.

There were tons of big signings this off-season that will change the outlook of most teams in MLB.

The teams that did the best in the market are the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox.

These three teams have seen their odds lower a lot since opening up at Bovada. In October 2014 the Red Sox were priced at 22/1, the Cubs were priced at 25/1 and the White Sox were priced at 40/1.

Bovada now has Boston available at 10/1, the Cubs at 14/1 and the White Sox at 16/1.

Those have been the biggest movers and shakers in the 2015 baseball futures markets.

Top Contenders to win the 2015 World Series

Washington won the NL East last season, but they were eliminated in the division series against the eventual World Series champs – the Giants. The Nationals signed Scherzer and now easily have the best rotation in baseball on paper.

The line-up is loaded with potential as well, including Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon and Jayson Werth.

There is just one concern, other than injuries, which is the bullpen. The bullpen was depleted during the off-season. The Nats were able to sign Casey Janssen who will fill-in great, but won’t make up for the losses of Tyler Clippard, Ross Detwiler and Rafael Soriano.

The Dodgers are expected to fight with the Nats for the NL pennant. LA brought in a big quantity of players, including Jimmy Rollins, Howie Kendrick, Brandon McCarthy and Yasmani Grandal, but they lost star power in Ramirez, Matt Kemp and Dan Haren.

This team will go as far as their pitching rotation takes them, especially Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.

The parity in MLB is incredible and that’s why a team like the Dodgers struggles to find success. They spend tons of money, but they always underachieve. St. Louis knocked LAD out of the MLB playoffs in the division series last season and I expect a similar result.

The Boston Red Sox finished last in the AL East in 2014 – yet now they’re favored to win the American League pennant.

I’m not sold on the Red Sox being a World Series contender, although the AL isn’t overly strong. The main problem I have is the turnover Boston have had. I’m impressed by the acquisitions of Sandoval, Ramirez, Rick Porcello, Wade Miley and Justin Masterson.

However, the Red Sox lost a lot of players, including Yoenis Cespedes and Will Middlebrooks. With all of the turnover this isn’t really a team anymore, as hardly anyone has played with each other. At 22/1 the Red Sox were a good bet, but not at these odds.

2015 World Series futures predictions

You want to target teams with value in the World Series futures market. There are over twenty teams in the league that could end up seriously contending for the playoffs and once a team makes the playoffs anything can happen in MLB.

I’ve bet on the White Sox and Pirates to win the World Series at the Bovada Sportsbook.

I wish I had jumped on the White Sox before they had an incredible off-season. They lost some veteran leadership, but they picked up a ton of talent that’ll instantly make this team a contender. I like the balance on this team as well.

Jeff Samardzija will fit into the pitching rotation nicely, while Cabrera and LaRoche add depth to the batting order.

The White Sox even picked up Robertson to close out games. This team is making a push to win the World Series and the AL is wide open for a team to takeover. Chicago only won 73 games last season, but I expect closer to 90 wins out of them in 2015.

The Pirates have made the MLB playoffs for two consecutive years and I’m banking on them to have another great season.

Pittsburgh lost their best pitcher in Edinson Volquez, plus Martin and Clint Barmes are both gone. A.J. Burnett is one of a few key additions that the front office made. The pitching has a lot of question marks, but I’m excited about the starting line-up.

There is a lot of power in the line-up and runs shouldn’t be a problem for once. Andrew McCutchen is healthy and will look to lead the Pirates to another winning season. It’ll be interesting to see whether Josh Harrison continues his dominance.
